Our first ranking update featured the top 25 players in the state's 2028 class. This list will continue to grow over the next three years. Every time we do a ranking update, we dive into prospect breakdowns following each release. In this breakdown, we're putting the spotlight on the top five prospects in the latest ranking update. This class has a TON of football to play before they eventually head off to the next level. But (for now) this group is the best of the best in the state's 2028 class. Keep it locked in to Prep Redzone Oklahoma for more 2028 breakdowns!

Union defensive lineman [player_tooltip player_id='1532195' first='Terrance' last='Evans'] got the nod for the top overall ranking in the initial 2028 rankings. He already has a handful of P4 offers and when you throw on the film, you see a prospect that has an incredibly high ceiling. First off, you can't coach size and Evans has a wealth of that. Looking at his freshman film, he doesn't look like a freshman, running around on a field with seniors and juniors and competing against the state's best competition. Now, it's obvious because he's a freshman but it should be mentioned that Evans is still very raw. What's scary is he still has three more years of high school football to work on his skillset and get a deeper bag of moves off the line of scrimmage. But there is no doubt, based on his size and get off speed, he has a very bright future.

After getting to see Washington quarterback [player_tooltip player_id='473891' first='Creed' last='Barrett'] dominate at several PRZ-Next camps, we believed that it was only a matter of time before Barrett earned the QB1 job for the Warriors and started impacting the varsity level. Barrett earned it from day one and he would also run away with PRZ-Oklahoma Freshman Of The Year honors. A big reason why (besides the production) was the fact that he seemed to always play his best against the toughest competition. The fact he was able to do that as a freshman really solidified him as one of the best quarterbacks in the state and that's regardless of class. Barrett has also earned several D1 offers since the end of his freshman season and he's just scratching the surface on what he'll be moving forward. There is a lot to like with the Washington signal caller.

Stillwater wide receiver [player_tooltip player_id='1214367' first='David' last='Thomas'] is similar to Barrett in the sense that we knew it was only a matter of time before he started shining on the varsity level. We got a chance to watch Thomas at various 7v7 tournaments and at our PRZ-Next camp last spring and we were convinced that the ceiling for him was incredibly high moving forward. Thomas didn't take long to have an impact on the varsity level for the Pioneers and in fact, he became one of their top weapons on the offensive side of the ball. Thomas is another example of a wide receiver prospect that makes the hard catches look incredibly easy. The majority of wide receivers in the class couldn't do what he's doing and he makes it look very simple. Thomas is a terrific playmaker and he already has the attention of college coaches across the country.

Rejoice Christian standout [player_tooltip player_id='1328118' first='Kamieon' last='Compton-Nero'] was on our radar prior to the 2024 season because of his overall athleticism but we still needed to see it with our own eyes. We got a chance to see him in person two times during the 2024 season and also a full season's worth of film and he checks so many boxes. He's a terrific athlete and that brings up the one big question with him as a prospect moving forward. Where will he line up when he heads to the next level? The good thing is we have three more seasons of high school football to figure that out but Compton-Nero is going to be an absolute menace for small school opponents during that time. He stood out at multiple positions in 2024, helping Rejoice Christian capture their first ever state championship and his recruitment has also taken off.

Madill standout [player_tooltip player_id='1374361' first='Kristopher' last='Grimaldo'] rounds out the top five and honestly, he has another good argument for being the top overall prospect in the class right now. Before Grimaldo's freshman season even began, Grimaldo was picking up multiple D1 offers, including an offer from an SEC program. This happened in early August. So needless to say, Grimaldo already passes the eye test and college coaches believe that his overall ceiling is through the roof. Now, out of the five prospects on this particular breakdown, Grimaldo continues to be somewhat of an unknown for us. We just haven't seen as much of Grimaldo compared to the other guys on this breakdown but the potential is still very clear. He has strength, size and could end up lining up in a few different positions over the next three seasons.
