Student-athletes are faced with a choice when looking for a college home when coming out of high school. Some guys lock up their spots and others wait to see what happens when the dust from the portal settles.

There isn't a right or wrong approach. It's decided on a case-by-case basis.

Colleges being more reliant on transfers impacts the size of their prep recruiting classes. As a result, really good players capable of contributing a lot to programs on the next level remain available.

Looking at Iowa's 2025 Class as we head into 2025, you uncover diamonds fitting that description. It's a good idea to look in the trenches, linebacker and tight end first when examining the state no matter the year.

The linebacker/tight end crop is defined by long-limbed athletes capable of developing at multiple positions. Sometimes they grow into defensive ends or tackles.

[player_tooltip player_id='1278782' first='Dylan' last='Manning'], [player_tooltip player_id='1080239' first='Jarrett' last='Kies'], [player_tooltip player_id='245555' first='Harrison' last='Tripp'], [player_tooltip player_id='1418087' first='Miles' last='Robbins'], [player_tooltip player_id='1165288' first='Jackson' last='Wacha'] and [player_tooltip player_id='1279984' first='Nova' last='Lane'] are rangy, agile athletes with good instincts and sound fundamentals. Everyone in this group has plenty of room to go before hitting their ceilings. Their best football is ahead of them.

The same can be said for the available student-athletes on the offensive line. It begins with West Des Moines Valley center [player_tooltip player_id='1273296' first='Derek' last='Ellens'], a multi-year starter on one of the state's best O-Lines. He's a mauler with a good frame that could help plenty of colleges, plenty of them quickly.

AC/GC's [player_tooltip player_id='1278827' first='Mason' last='Wahl'] also is capable of accomplishing a lot on the next level. He has the size with room to develop as a player. Iowa City High's [player_tooltip player_id='1278909' first='Calin' last='Wagner'] improved each year starting on the interior a punishing offensive line, and Iowa City Liberty's [player_tooltip player_id='1282214' first='Caleb' last='Burnett'] shined at left tackle with the ability to produce at other spots.

City High's [player_tooltip player_id='1279704' first='Dieme' last='Lipanda'] is another versatile athlete with desirable size. He's a good colleges could try on both sides of the trenches and see how he develops.

Programs should also check out Cedar Rapids Prairie's [player_tooltip player_id='1279707' first='Roby' last='Swartzendruber'], a productive starter for multiple seasons with position flexibility. Decorah's [player_tooltip player_id='1279098' first='Will' last='Hahn'] and [player_tooltip player_id='1360745' first='Grant' last='Wilson'], a rugged center from Solon, will need some development, but are technically sound with a chance to grow into consistent contributors on the next level.

Other O-Line prospects flying under the radar with a chance to pop in the future are [player_tooltip player_id='847874' first='Trey' last='Hicklin'], [player_tooltip player_id='1279697' first='Hayden' last='Vonnahme'], [player_tooltip player_id='1361707' first='Will' last='Diaz'], [player_tooltip player_id='1360516' first='Hayden' last='Overgaard'], [player_tooltip player_id='1279887' first='Carter' last='Eden'] and [player_tooltip player_id='1279885' first='Carter' last='Smith'], to name a few. On the defensive front, take a look at [player_tooltip player_id='252331' first='Kolton' last='Borcherding-Johnson'], [player_tooltip player_id='1279956' first='Ian' last='Samples'], [player_tooltip player_id='1278822' first='Max' last='Schmeltzer'], [player_tooltip player_id='1277268' first='Isaiah' last='Bassett'], [player_tooltip player_id='1218557' first='Grant' last='Koehler'], [player_tooltip player_id='1280523' first='Jack' last='Krull'], [player_tooltip player_id='533061' first='Vinnie' last='Keller'] and [player_tooltip player_id='1279082' first='Jalyn' last='Ford'].
