The start of Freshman Friday kicks off in Western New York, where in Buffalo, several freshmen were impact players for their varsity squads - outside of [player_tooltip player_id='1087115' first='Jason' last='Hargrove Jr']. There are still areas to develop as a Freshman, but he has great burst and twitch. His long speed looks solid. The competition isn't the fastest, but he can pull away against those guys. He shows some natural ball skills as a returner, receiver, and safety.

Hargrove Jr. is the only guy from Buffalo and, to my knowledge, all of CNY & WNY who was a key piece on his team as an 8th grader last season. Hargrove Jr.'s role got bigger this year with some key graduations from Bennett.

Hargrove Jr put up some strong numbers this year for Bennett

46 Tackles - 5 Sacks - 7 TFLs - 2 PDs

Key TE/FB Blocking Reps in a Bennett run-first offense

As an EDGE prospect and a freshman, he needs to continue growing height-wise to add some length and strength in the weight room. However, for a freshman, he certainly is built well with some strength in his upper body. He is a strong enough prospect to shed blocks and create some explosive punches at the point of attack. I was able to get eyes on him late in the season, and there is a lot to like. Once his full-season film is out, I should be able to complete a more thorough evaluation.

Their season is not over, but Canisius has a pair of Freshman contributing primarily on defense - first is [player_tooltip player_id='1367095' first='Xavier' last='Gates-Franklin'], who plays corner

25 Tackles, 1 INT, 8 PD, 2 FF

Gates has a regular-season film out, so I got a pretty good look at what he has done; he should also see Canisius if they make the CHSFL Final. On film, it's been a while since I have seen a Freshman this trusted in 1v1 coverage; Canisus doesn't rotate him a bunch of help, and his cover skills are his best trait. He attacked the catch point, a lot of really nice pass breakups on tape, and he reads and reacts well in zone coverage. He looks pretty comfortable and impressive for a Freshman in that position. Going forward, getting bigger, faster, and stronger are the key aspects of development.

He also gets some WR reps. There are some solid reps on tape there, but for now, I think his best position as a prospect is CB. However, he does flash that athleticism offensively as well.

NO FILM NAMES TO KNOW

There is no HUDL film out for Floyd - but he has been productive for Canisius with 25 Tackles and 2 PDs - there are some clips on social media that show a physical tackler.
