We're already over halfway through the 2024 season in the blink of an eye and it's time to spotlight some of our ranked athletes. Here's an update on some of our ranked LBs who have performed well to this point of the season.

Through 8 games of the season, our #1 LB in the 2025 class [player_tooltip player_id='450997' first='Hunter' last='Giacomo'] is leading the George Washington Patriots in tackles for the second year in a row and is having a strong finish to his high school career.

Giacomo has totaled 82 stops and has forced three fumbles in 8 games as he continues to generate D1 interest this year. He's a versatile OLB prospect who can do a little of everything with his athletic ability which shows you why numerous D1 programs are after his services. Giacomo pursues the ball at a high level with his speed and quickness and attacks ball carriers with a purpose. His athleticism allows him to drop into coverage efficiently with DB experience in his younger days. Giacomo reads and dissects plays quickly with a high football IQ that should put him on the field early at the next level.

The top linebacker tandem in the state in our eyes resides at George Washington with the aforementioned Giacomo and fellow classmate [player_tooltip player_id='908984' first='Guner' last='Flores'] following right behind him as our #2 LB in the 2025 class.

Flores places second on the Patriots' tackles list with 63 through 8 games as the bigger athlete of the two. He complements Giacomo from the middle of the defense at middle linebacker and is a thumping downhill player. Flores can put a lot of power behind his shoulder pads and rarely allows ball carriers to fall forward. He's a stout athlete who runs well in his own right with the physicality to shut down inside runs and the athleticism to pursue the ball outside the tackles. Flores has his options at the D1 level as well and looks the part of a prospect for that level on film.

Cabell Midland is beginning to figure things out under a new head coach the past 4 games and 2025 Edge [player_tooltip player_id='1126819' first='Carson' last='Gue'] is playing a key piece to their recent success on both sides of the ball.

Gue is getting good reps on offense at TE this season as a punishing blocker showcasing his physicality further along with his defensive film. Edge feels like his most natural position at the next level, and Gue is executing at that spot well this season. Even as a bigger framed athlete, Gue's quickness off the edge surprises offensive tackles and he can beat them to their spot consistently with the athleticism to bend around them as well. Ball carriers won't want to see Gue barreling down on them with a full head of steam behind him as he can lay the wood once he gets there too. He's another prospect on this list with D1 potential and a high ceiling as a future college player.

Another 2025 LB with D1 potential on this list is Fairmont Senior's [player_tooltip player_id='1158298' first='Hunter' last='Bigelow'] who has been a solid addition to the Polar Bears' defense for his senior year.

Bigelow is in the mold of your classic middle linebacker who is a stout between-the-tackles run-stopper. The 6'2 220 senior is a physical player who is very strong in run defense and often meets running backs in the A and B gaps at the line of scrimmage. Bigelow packs a punch behind his pads when he squares his shoulders and can stop runners in their tracks. Getting North and South is the best part of his game, but he can also sniff out outside runs and beat ball carriers at the LOS outside of the tackles too.

Scott's [player_tooltip player_id='908993' first='David' last='Fennessy'] has been a pleasant surprise on the offensive side of the ball this season for the Skyhawks as they were searching for someone to step up at running back, and he's answered the call.

Fennessy is still getting it done on defense as well but has showcased his athletic versatility further with several 100+ yard rushing games this season. He can still drop back to safety at times which he's done plenty of in the past but has really grown into a linebacker body over the past two years. Fennessy is still flying under the radar for colleges and is awaiting his first offer which will come any day now as a no-doubt D2 prospect in our eyes. You can plug him into a variety of roles at the next level, and his versatility should make him an intriguing prospect to colleges.
