Millwood Dominates Jones In District Showdown

By the end of the first quarter, it felt like the game was already won as the Falcons dominated their way to a 46-13 victory over the visiting Longhorns. Jones shot themselves in the foot on their first two possessions, fumbling the ball away and giving Millwood a short field to work with. Both times, the Falcons cashed in with touchdowns. By the end of the first quarter, Millwood led 24-0 and cruised to the victory from there. There was no doubt that junior quarterback [player_tooltip player_id='434614' first='CJ' last='Turnbull'] was the star of the night but more on him in a bit. Carter made some devastating hits on defense and also scored a touchdown and several two-point conversions as Millwood built their 24-0 lead in the first quarter. We've known that Carter is one of the better linebackers in 2A-1 for a while now but we've also started to write more about what he can do for the Millwood offense. It's clear that he's Millwood's short yardage running back and is close to impossible to bring down in a one on one situation. You have to gang tackle Carter and depending on how many defenders you bring at him, that might not be enough. It seems like every time we've seen Carter in person over the last two and a half seasons, he's always one of the top players on the field. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='434614' first='CJ' last='Turnbull'] - Junior Quarterback</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>We mentioned earlier that junior quarterback [player_tooltip player_id='434614' first='CJ' last='Turnbull'] was the star of the game and that was because of what he could do with his arm and his legs. And look, Turnbull was one of our players that we highlighted in week five as a "player to watch" and we talked about his experience, with well over 30 starts in his career at this point, he has the potential to be the best quarterback in Millwood's school history. And the reason we're comfortable saying that was his performance against Jones. That was a good Longhorn defense he faced and he made everything look so easy. Whether it was shredding them in the passing game or taking off and making big plays with his legs, Turnbull couldn't be contained. He's made a significant jump as a quarterback in the last 12 months and in our opinion, he's one of the best in the state's 2026 class. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='360157' first='Xzavier' last='Thompson'] - Senior Wide Receiver</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>It was a busy night for senior wide receiver [player_tooltip player_id='360157' first='Xzavier' last='Thompson'] as he finished with two receiving touchdowns and was voted as homecoming king for Millwood. Thompson is a wide receiver that we thought could take a massive jump this season and so far, he's living up to the hype. Turnbull spread the ball around and there wasn't one receiver that would jump off the stat sheet with ten plus catches or anything like that. But Thompson is clearly the guy that can make this offense hit another gear in the passing game. He took a short slant, shrugged off a defender and raced 30+ yards for a touchdown. That was his second touchdown of the game and you got a good look of what his speed can do in the open field. Thompson is an underrated talent in the state's 2025 class and he has the chance to make a college staff look very smart. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph -->
