We had multiple options to choose from for statewide player of the week but Hill is the guy we felt deserved this honor after going down to Texas and being a major force behind the Patriots 52-48 victory over Anna High School. Oakland leaned heavily on their run game last Friday and it shined as they had multiple 200 yard rushers but Hill was near unstoppable. He was efficient with his work by producing big yards then made four of his twenty two carries finish in the end zone. Hill is a dynamic player that brings speed to the backfield but can also catch it too and do it from the slot if needed. His stock is certainly rising, so expect more performances like this moving forward.

People better start getting to know this Mid-Tennessee signal caller as this may not be the last time he earns player of the week honors. Chaffin was a dominant force in the Bees 41-14 road win over Lebanon last week where this junior playmaker beat up the Blue Devils defense with both his arm and his legs. His work in the passing game is what impressed me the most as was efficient with the ball in his hands while making the proper reads. His athleticism and speed while running was difficult to stop and something Lebanon could not slow down. Chaffin's performance immediately earned him an Eastern Ky and they won't be the last to get on board.

The Warriors defense was dominant last Friday in their 35-0 win over East Hamilton with Mays being the major force behind that cause. His play up front was excellent where he brought havoc to the Hurricanes backfield all night long, producing two sacks while making several plays against their running backs. Mays was a tremendous addition to the D-line for Marion Co. as the Warriors have a shot at competing for the 2A title this year. If Mays and his defense continue playing like they did last week, competing in Chattanooga by season's end becomes more possible.

O-line of the Week

Oakland Patriots

- The Patriots went down to Texas and simply ran over the Anna defense as their O-line paved the way for two 200 plus yard rushers in their 52-48 win down in the Lonestar State. Oakland is absolutely loaded in the backfield with [player_tooltip player_id='219449' first='Tamari' last='Hill'], [player_tooltip player_id='219387' first='Daune' last='Morris'] (currently injured) and now [player_tooltip player_id='856867' first='Craig' last='Tutt'], who ran for 202 yards and 2 scores in their Week Two victory. Those guys don't get the holes or the yards without the play of their big men up front and they did an outstanding job at being physical and creating opportunities for the Oakland ball carriers to shine.

Team of the Week

Sevier Co. Smoky Bears

- Several teams could have claimed this honor but Sevier Co. took it after knocking off a 6A program and doing so in commanding fashion. The Smoky Bears defeated Jefferson Co., 35-14 in what was one of the bigger games from the Week Two slate. It was an outstanding performance from both sides of the ball where [player_tooltip player_id='1142902' first='Cooper' last='Newman'], [player_tooltip player_id='219342' first='Tegan' last='Avera'] and the Smoky Bears offense rolled over a solid Patriots defense while the Sevier Co. defenders handled business too by shutting down [player_tooltip player_id='848834' first='Skylar' last='Thomas'] and the Jefferson co. run game. It was also a big win for a team that is building a case to be a 5A title contender by season's end.

- Newman has been on fire so far this season with last week being one of his best performances yet. The Smoky Bears sophomore was highly efficient while producing 4 touchdowns in his team's commanding win over Jefferson County.

WR POTW: [player_tooltip player_id='390722' first='Sam' last='Pickett III'] - Marion Co.

- The Warriors stud playmaker did his thing in Week Two where his speed could be controlled. Pickett produced in a big way with 4 TD's on 5 receptions while also doing work within the team's rushing attack as well.

- Baxter (6'3 275) had himself a breakthrough performance last Friday where he was a disruptive force from start to finish in the Hornets 22-8 victory over Grundy County.

LB POTW: [player_tooltip player_id='1110709' first='Sammie' last='Smith'] - Ripley

- Even though his Tigers team fell last week, Smith did everything he could to keep them in the game. His work on defense was outstanding, including a spectacular interception where he can track backwards and dive for the catch.

- The Eagles had a big road win over Red Bank in Week Two with Smith being a major reason why. His play on defense was outstanding where he locked down the back end with several batted passes and two interceptions.
