Expert Analysis
Chris Smith | Prep Redzone Scout
Back to back years, Newman led his Smoky Bears team to the Class 5A title game and even though he came up short last Fall, this junior quarterback still had a sensational junior campaign. For the 2025 season, Newman threw the ball for 3,705 yards with 45 touchdowns and only 4 interceptions. The Smoky Bears signal caller also had a 73% completion percentage while rushing for 124 yards and another three scores. Newman kept his team undefeated throughout the entire season until falling to Page in Chattanooga but all year long, this junior passer was near flawless, showing an improved skill set along with continuing to build his makeup as a winner.

Already holding a state title to his name, Newman added another big honor by taking home “Mr. Football” on Tuesday after a stellar junior year that saw him throw for over 3,000 yards and 45 touchdowns. The Smoky Bears junior produced his best on the field work of his career this Fall and fell one game short of leading his team to back to back state championships. One of the top offensive prospects from our TN2027 class, Newman is a strong armed pocket passer that sports good mobility and a calm presence behind center. Being named “Mr. Football” for his junior season, Newman will be a prime candidate to repeat next year, especially if he leads his Smoky Bears team on another deep run to Chattanooga.
