Last Season (14-0)

Last season was perfect for the Brothers, as they came home with the AA State Championship. They won every game and coasted through the season with only one scare: they were down 10-0 at halftime to Baldwinsville and then coasted through the second half, winning 20-17. There is little to comment on except that they continued their recent dominance of Section III.

Top Prospect

Williams was the first CBA prospect to commit to Syracuse and for good reason - he is one of the fastest prospects in New York and will actually add a position to his repertoire this season playing some DB for CBA-Syracuse instead of just WR as he likely ends up on the defensive side of the ball at the next level.

Next Five Prospects

Bacheyie has a special build at 6'5 200+ and he runs a sub 11 100m which is extremely impressive for an athlete his size in New York. He returns as potentially the top target for CBA-Syracuse with Williams playing two ways this season.

Hawn, for the last two seasons, has held down the tackle position for CBA-Syracuse, and he is one of the better athletes playing the offensive line position in the state. Hawn is a long, lean tackle who moves really well in space and excels getting his hands on smaller defenders in the screen game.

Cox, who has continued to lose weight to get in better playing shape, has transformed himself as a prospect over the past season, although there is still more work to go. Offers from Syracuse and Rutgers kicked off the recruitment for the biggest offensive lineman in New York, and his tape flashes some movement and power that is truly one-of-a-kind in New York.

Limited film for Hicks, but a dominant offseason which included an offer from Boston College after camp performance there this summer, is a glimpse of the special player Hicks can be. Last season, it was hard to find reps with Bacheyie, Williams, and seniors Syair Torrence & Jason Brunson but he should replace the loss of Torrence and Brunson at the position. More opportunities for Hicks this season, and they certainly can make some key plays for the CBA Offense.

A starter last season at LB [player_tooltip player_id='402262' first='Fedel' last='Smith'] is a really talented overall athlete who closes on the ball quickly and can make tackles in space. The primary playmaker for the defense was strong safety/outside linebacker Syair Torrence, and Smith is the type of athlete and player who can start to make some of those big game-changing plays that they lose.

Breakout Player

Coleman will be the full-time starter with Jamier Handford's graduation. He is a player with a great build for the position at 5'11 "190 lbs. and, headed into his Junior season, flashes some quality stuff as an underclassman. He can impact the game catching the ball and looks to be a true three-down style back for CBA.

Coleman has always had talented guys ahead of him, but look for him to take control of the backfield this year, and with the entire offensive line returning Coleman has the guys in front to make a lot of good things happen.

Names To Know

Name

Position

Year

Notes

[player_tooltip player_id='1420958' first='Steve' last='Grosso']

DE/TE

2025

Impact TE blocker - East has elite playmakers, but CBA is much bigger and stronger in the trenches, and both teams bring new quarterbacks into the matchup. Baldwinsville loses some of the talent that helped them scare CBA for a half last season, but CBA does have them away after an away Liverpool game, which will feature a crazy 2027 class from Liverpool. I think you might see 2-3 close games out of this schedule, but CBA will, again, coast through Section III.

3 Things Going For The Brothers

There is only one thing here—it is the best thing any coach could ask for. They bring back top to bottom the best roster in New York—and even though they lost a top-10 prospect from last season, they have so much talent at skill positions that there is just not enough playing time to go around.

1 Area To Be Concerns

Any year you have to replace your quarterback, you head into the season with some uncertainty about what your team will look like when throwing the ball.

The Last Word

I think an appearance in the Section III final is, at minimum, what we will see from CBA-Syracuse; beyond that, it will be dictated by their quarterback play. They have the size and the offensive line to be one-dimensional through the season if they need to be, and they showed last year that with so many offensive playmakers, they could be very creative offensively. However, to win beyond Sectionals, CBA must utilize the multiple FBS WRs on this team and push the ball down the field.
