Smith is an OLB who could also add some weight/strength by becoming a pass rush specialist EDGE. Smith is one of the most violent explosive defensive athletes in this class in New York.

His get-off is quick and very consistent across his tape. He is a great athlete who shows excellent lateral movement skills and some developed pass rush moves. Right now, he is too small to be on the LOS full-time, but there is a chance he develops into that. For now, I think he is the top OLB prospect in the class.

Smith, whom I saw live against East, has a three-game tape out, and he has built off a promising Sophomore season – he plays OLB but replaces some of that athleticism and burst off the edge that Boston College signee Syair Torrence had.

On tape, I like Smith’s discipline off the edge, where he is patient to attack the ball – once he locates and reads whats going on in front of him, he is quicker to the ball than all the CBA LBs and DBs – he has some promise as a pass rusher and blitzer but his best trait is how he attacks blocker with physicality. There are multiple reps on tape and reps I saw live where he knocks back guys who have at least 60+ pounds and a few inches on him.

The primary playmaker for the defense was strong safety/outside linebacker Syair Torrence, and Smith is the type of athlete and player who can start to make some of those big game-changing plays that they lose.

Smith was part of a very talented CBA-Syracuse defense last season that featured multiple playmakers playing the LB/SS position. Smith did not fill the box score a ton, but his tape and overall athleticism project strongly to the next level. I like Smith’s athleticism on film and think he is a player who has a really strong junior season.
