2024 WV Team Preview: Washington Patriots

We expect that process to continue this season with the chance of Washington having one of their best seasons since opening in 2008. The Patriots have reached 7 wins in a season just once in their 14-year history with a shot to get near that win total in 2024. Whether the winning comes now or in the future remains to be seen, but there is confidence in the program that they'll get there in time and are taking the right steps to achieve goals that haven't been done in Washington's history. We've been high on the 6'2 255 senior for a while now and believe he's one of the most underrated players in the state regardless of position. As a junior, Osafo-Mensah totaled 50 tackles, 16 TFLs, and 5 sacks and should have an even more productive senior year for the Patriots. We got eyes on him in person at the PRZ WV Combine where he was selected as the DL MVP among a talented group of big men in attendance. The 6'6 tower will provide a big presence for the Patriots offense this season as one of the top quarterbacks in this class with a lot of upside and potential. Thompson showed flashes of great play during the second half of the 2023 season and should showcase more as a senior in his new program. He has great vision of the field with his length and has the arm strength to attack defenses at all levels. Beard missed some time last season due to injury but should have a good bounce-back year with his new team. He's your classic quick and shifty slot receiver who can be dynamic will the ball in his hands. Beard is a well-developed route runner who can hurt defenses at all three levels of the route tree. He already has a nice connection with [player_tooltip player_id='906644' first='Michael' last='Thompson'] from their time at Musselman and could end up being his favorite target this season. He's a coach's son and well-developed as a player who can perform on both sides of the ball. Rea will be a reliable target on offense this season who can be utilized in a variety of ways from the slot. He'll sneak his way into being consistently open and finds space well in opposing secondaries. Sine has quality small college lineman size at 6'0 265 and played a lot of tackle last season with a future at guard. There isn't a lot of film from him to evaluate at this point but from what we could find, Sine has quality feet and looks like an athlete who can thrive at guard with his size and ability. He may be undersized but is a bulldog at center for the Patriots and will sneak up on you if you overlook him due to that. You can see him pushing around much bigger defensive linemen on his junior highlight tape, and Naputi plays with great leverage and is strong for his size. Naputi is very physical at the point of attack and does a nice job on double-team blocks. He also has the athleticism to get to the second level of the defense and blocks well in space. The scary thing is he's yet to get close to his full potential as a player and can continue improving over the next two years. Togans will be a 3-year starter this season and will be transitioning to their Rover safety which looks like a more natural fit for him with being able to play closer to the line of scrimmage but can also play on the backend like he's done the past two years. He's an explosive athlete with good footwork which you see in his route running breaks and release. Holmes is a big and athletic quarterback whose patience may end up being a blessing for his future development and should be primed for a big junior year in 2025.
