Simply put, this event was a absolutely awesome. In the midst of a very popular camp weekend where locally both Rutgers and Marist hosted competing camps, Van Curen managed to host over 500 prospects, roughly 65 colleges, well over 150 college coaches, and just one member of the media – me – who will be bringing you the exclusive media coverage of the event.
My exclusive coverage of the event continues with this piece on positional analysis of the group mentioned in the article’s title.
Positional Breakdown: Defensive Ends
We open with Josiah Guiles, an end out of the Millbrook School (NY). With two seasons still yet to play in his high school career, Guiles looks to be a prospect who pushes the envelope and attacks upfield. I though that Guiles gained a lot of ground, quickly, when rushing the passer. Often times his opposing matchup was immediately put on skates and had to work like a dog to either recover or compete on any given rep Guiles took…..
Omar Tillman

from Union City is a prospect I am particularly high on. Having covered him in the past, you can read up on my analysis of him by clicking through on his profile. This time out I was able to see Tillman’s counter when he is initially beat. On the particular rep that stood out to me, Tillman went inside and got caught inside; however, Tillman was able to still come out victorious in my opinion. Due to outstanding pad level, he was able to stay lower than his matchup and convert his rush into power, quickly walking his matchup back into the face of the opposing quarterback. Tillman also ranked in the 85th percentile when running the forty.
Rahway’s
Kevin Taylor

is a prospect that I am happy to have seen live and cannot wait to watch more film on. Aside from running a 4.75 forty that placed him in the 94th percentile, Taylor showed that he can pair pass rush moves with his threat of speed. Although Taylor hit and got home on swims, rips, and ghost rips, it appears as though he might have mastered the art of the double swipe. Using both hands, the force Taylor gets on his get off allowed him to nearly turn around his matchup when attacking with this move…..

profiles more as a stand-up edge player who tends to buzz around and look to disrupt blocking schemes. I am typically weary of prospects who play in 40 fronts and stand up due to pad level; however, Tejeiro appears to be an exception to my rule. As he showed bend, the rising senior did a great job of working his hands upward. This enabled him to play with outstanding leverage and, rather than get moved, he moved bodies that were much bigger than his….. Camden Catholic’s

appears to a pass rushing threat at nose. Owen showed outstanding instincts, but more importantly, appeared to pass rush with a plan. One rep that I walked away impressed with was when he was lined up in a shade on the center. At the snap of the ball he threatened with two hard, vertical steps upfield, only to then rip across the face of the center for what looked like an easy victory. The center overcommitted by turning his feet and never recovered.
Positional Breakdown: Defensive Tackles
The lone defensive tackle to make the final report was Elizabeth’s Steven Morales Steven Morales 6'0" | 245 lbs | DL Elizabeth | 2027 NJ . Morales, a graduate from the class of 2027, is yet another Minuteman who shows great promise. Running an exciting forty for a freshman tackle (5.10, in the 85th percentile), Morales translated this to a good get off. He has the size and strength to work-and-turn, winning the weak shoulder. Additionally, Morales kept working his hands, attacking and getting into his opponent. One area for Morales to work on is activating his hips as he looks to turn the corner.
