Here are the receivers & defensive backs who stood out and were selected as MVPs & Top Performers by the college coaches in attendance coaching them up!
WIDE RECEIVER MVP
Every time we see 2025 University WR Ethan Jackson Ethan Jackson 6’0″ | 165 lbs | WR University | 2025 State WV in person he puts on a show and that’s exactly what he did at the PRZ WV Combine. Jackson was named the WR MVP by the college coaches in attendance, and that’s a regular accomplishment for him at every event we see him at. He showed why we think so highly of him, and why he’s ranked the #6 WR in the 2025 class. Jackson excels in camp settings as he has the perfect combination of speed and quickness, and is a well-developed route runner. He was still able to run a 4.6 40 in wet conditions along with a 4.44 pro shuttle and a 7.4 L Drill further showcasing the athletic ability he has.
He’s a nightmare to cover in 1-on-1s for any high school defensive back and had an overall great performance at the Combine as we expected of him.
TOP PERFORMERS
Winfield’s Toby Laughery Toby Laughery 6’4″ | 225 lbs | TE Winfield | 2025 State WV is a pure TE prospect but still proved to be one of the best receivers at the Combine. We knew he would be impressive heading into the event, and he backed up our high ranking for him while showing why he has a D1 grade from us. Laughery is a physically impressive athlete who stuck out right away from a physical standpoint. He tested very well for his size as we expected and ran a fast 4.75 40, 4.32 pro shuttle, and a 7.46 L Drill in bad weather which was impressive for a TE prospect. Laughery is a tough cover for defensive backs and linebackers at the high school level given his combination of size and athleticism, and he showcased his pass-catching ability and route running very well.
His strong performance at the Combine made him a great case to be in contention for the #1 TE ranking in the 2025 class, and we expect to see him begin to receive some college offers this off-season.
Highlights
2026 Jefferson WR Tre’Von Ledbetter Tre’Von Ledbetter 5’11” | 170 lbs | WR Jefferson | 2026 WV was a huge unknown to us heading into the Combine due to a lack of film available, but he quickly made himself known to everyone in attendance. Ledbetter earned a Top 5 WR Performer spot from the college coaches at the event and was consistent throughout the day. He flashed a quick release off the line and did a nice job breaking and fighting off press coverage. Ledbetter also showcased quality route-running ability and was one of the best receivers at the camp in that regard. He even had some good reps as a defensive back when tasked with playing on that side of the ball which gives him some positional versatility and options next season.
We’ll be looking for his strong performance at the Combine to carry over to the 2024 season and anticipate him to have some quality film available after his junior season. Even without film, Ledbetter may just find himself ranked in the summer update after his strong showing.
Highlights
Another largely unknown 2026 Jefferson WR prospect coming into the Combine but had a strong showing that earned him a Top 5 WR Performer spot was Ricardo Lewis Ricardo Lewis 6’2″ | 170 lbs | WR Jefferson | 2026 WV . We had a good feeling about Lewis even without hardly any film of him to evaluate before the event, and he proved our hunch to be correct. Lewis has quality size for a sophomore receiver and was able to use his frame to his advantage throughout the camp. He also had quality testing numbers in tough weather conditions and confirmed the athletic traits we believed he was going to have when we were previewing the Combine.
Lewis was another quality route runner with the speed to create separation in the open field and the size to extend over smaller DBs. Jefferson has a strong 2026 WR corps that should be fun to watch the next two seasons and could develop into one of the state’s best groups.
Highlights
2026 Chapmanville WR Jeremy Collins was completely off our radar heading into the Combine but has been firmly added to it after his strong showing during the camp. The 5’8 165 sophomore didn’t catch a single pass for the Tigers last season but was their leading rusher with 446 yards and 6 touchdowns as well as a talented DB who totaled 52 tackles and an interception. Collins didn’t have any film to evaluate either before the event, so we didn’t know what to expect from him. While he’s not the biggest athlete right now, Collins is built very well for his size and age with an obvious athletic build when you see him.
Collins is a natural receiver and playmaker with the athletic traits to develop into a quality college prospect over the next two years. He ran a 4.75 40, 4.43 pro shuttle, and a 7.5 L Drill which are very good times for him, and further lamented the high-quality athleticism he has. Hopefully, he’ll get some film posted and will make a Twitter/X account, so he can get on college radars even further.
DEFENSIVE BACK MVP
The University Hawks were double-dipping for the WR & DB MVP selections as 2026 Glenn Brown Glenn Brown 6’0″ | 150 lbs | WR University | 2026 WV also took home MVP Honors. We got a small glimpse of 2026 University WR/DB Glenn Brown Glenn Brown 6’0″ | 150 lbs | WR University | 2026 WV last season as a sophomore but he appears to be poised for a breakout junior season for the Hawks. Brown had a strong showing on both sides of the line and could’ve been selected as a WR or DB Top Performer. The college coaches teaching and evaluating him elected on the defensive side to praise him for his performance where he was named DB MVP. Brown posted one of the best L Drill times of the day with a blazing 7.2 second time and backed up the small glimpse we got of his athletic ability last season.
Brown will only continue to get better the more he adds size to his frame which will bolster his athletics even further and raise his ceiling higher as a prospect. It was a great start to his junior year off-season, and Brown should prove to be a more productive player for University this fall.
TOP PERFORMERS
With the lack of pure defensive back prospects in attendance, 2025 Martinsburg DB Brayden Miller Brayden Miller 5’9″ | 185 lbs | LB Preston | 2027 WV was able to showcase another side of his game that we hadn’t seen much of before the event. Although he earned Top Performer DB honors, Miller had just as good of a showing as a receiver. While he’s still a definite defensive back prospect, it was great to see his athletic versatility. Miller was able to show off his ball skills on a greater scale as a receiver and showed he can be a two-way player this season if needed. He’s very good at tracking the ball in the air and adjusting his body to the path of the throw.
Miller has sure hands which is a great quality to have as a DB too and puts himself in a good position to play the ball as a WR and DB. He should be able to earn a starting spot for the state-power Bulldogs as a senior at his new school.

As expected, the Huntington Highlanders have some talented underclassmen who are going to develop into high-level players in the future on their varsity team. The latest 2027 prospect to know from their program is WR/DB Donte Newsome Donte Newsome 6’1″ | 170 lbs | DB Huntington | 2027 WV who was one of the top freshmen in attendance at the Combine. Newsome is a long athlete for a freshman at 6’0 160 who had quality testing numbers for his age in wet conditions that he can improve on over the next three years. He did well on both sides of the line at the camp as a WR and a DB and even has past experience playing quarterback.
Newsome was already able to catch the attention of the college coaches in attendance who selected him as a Top Performer among a deep and talented WR/DB group which speaks volumes to his future as a prospect.
Highlights
Another small school player who proved he could compete with some of the state’s best was 2026 Tug Valley ATH Bryson Elia Bryson Elia 5’10” | 150 lbs | ATH Tug Valley | 2026 State WV . Elia has played just about everywhere at the high school level and has been one of the more productive 2026 prospects in the state to this point. The college coaches at the Combine named him a Top 5 DB Performer, but Elia is just as talented of a receiver as he is a defensive back. He’s just an overall playmaker who is a natural athlete who excels at any position or sport that he plays. Elia also had strong testing numbers for his age which included a 4.8 40, 4.38 pro shuttle, and a 7.6 L Dill that can be improved in drier conditions and as he gets older.
Just get the ball in Elia’s hands and he’s going to make good things happen for your team. He’ll continue to be one of the top small school athletes over the next two seasons and it will be fun to watch how much more he develops, especially as he gets bigger.

Another top program in the state that has more talent coming through its ranks is defending champion Martinsburg which had a DB Top Performer in 2027 WR/DB Deonte Humphrey Deonte Humphrey 5’8″ | 160 lbs | DB Martinsburg | 2027 WV . Humphrey is going to develop into another one of their talented two-way WR/DB players that they’ve had so much success with over the years. He’s already a natural playmaker who is going to make huge strides in his development the older he gets. Humphrey is raw right now as is expected for a 2027 prospect right now, but the early signs are already flashing that he’ll be one of the top skill players in his class by the time he’s a senior.
Humphrey is a very moldable athlete who performed well on the Bulldogs’ freshman team last season and could earn some varsity playing time as a sophomore if he continues to develop further over the off-season.
