Nothing can boost a prospect's stock and athletic profile like an eye-catching track & field performance. Despite all of the speculation and hypothesis that goes into evaluating high school football players going into the college ranks and eventually college football prospects hoping to make it to the NFL, a consistent data point of successful players is multi-sport backgrounds. One of the most applicable sports to add to a football player's resume is track and field, and given that football generally comes down to who is the biggest, fastest, and strongest, nothing can be more clear-cut than throwing an object further or running faster than your opponent. Throwing requires strength, explosiveness, and balance, while sprinting is the name of the game for most sports, including football, and events such as the long, high, and triple jump, or the high hurdles, show off even more specialized and hard-to-find traits and skills. With the outdoor season well underway, there have been a notable amount of eye-catching track and field performances coming out of the Land of 10,000 Lakes, solidifying some prospect's athleticism and putting others on the map. Get to know some of Minnesota's best multi-sporters below!

--
<!-- wp:acf/evaluation-block {"name":"acf/evaluation-block","data":{"player_evaluations_0_player":["234761"],"_player_evaluations_0_player":"field_62ab9d62ecf2c","player_evaluations_0_override_profile_image":"","_player_evaluations_0_override_profile_image":"override-player-profile-image","player_evaluations_0_not_in_database":"","_player_evaluations_0_not_in_database":"field_62aba48cecf2d","player_evaluations_0_evaluation":"You have to start with the biggest storyline, one that not only had implications and created waves in the MN recruiting scene but also in the regional and national circuit. It's not breaking news anymore, but u003cemu003eMonticello'su003c/emu003e 2025 standout u003cstrongu003eLuke Emmerichu003c/strongu003e had one of the better recruiting storylines in recent memory and was arguably the biggest winner of the recent NCAA contact period. Missing the 2023 season due to a preseason injury, there were a lot of unknowns in u003cstrongu003eEmmerich'su003c/strongu003e stock, recovery, and projection, but he blew things out of the water after exploding into the outdoor season with a blazing u003cstrongu003e10.69 100Mu003c/strongu003e and catapulting himself into the P4 recruiting space. You have to give credit to Illinois State, Air Force, Army, and B1G Washington, who all saw his potential before the 100M performance, and u003cstrongu003eEmmerich'su003c/strongu003e sophomore tape showed a dynamic, explosive, and good-framed athlete with positional flexibility in his projection and visible athleticism and playmaking ability, but the track speed boosted things to a whole new level. After the time went public, Iowa State offered later that night, and it was followed by Wisconsin, Washington State, Michigan State, Boston College, Cal-Berkeley, Utah, Nebraska, USC, Minnesota, and Kansas State. With the likes of Ohio State, Miami (FL), and Alabama sniffing around, u003cstrongu003eEmmerichu003c/strongu003e shut things only a couple weeks after the offers started rolling in, committing to the new(ish) Wisconsin staff on May 3rd. The Badgers got a good one, and we have track speed and a verified athletic data point to thank for this blowup. What a month it's been for the u003cemu003eMonticellou003c/emu003e rising senior!","_player_evaluations_0_evaluation":"field_62aba51aecf34","player_evaluations_1_player":["641132"],"_player_evaluations_1_player":"field_62ab9d62ecf2c","player_evaluations_1_override_profile_image":"","_player_evaluations_1_override_profile_image":"override-player-profile-image","player_evaluations_1_not_in_database":"","_player_evaluations_1_not_in_database":"field_62aba48cecf2d","player_evaluations_1_evaluation":"A familiar name in the 2025 recruiting class by now, u003cemu003eWaseca's u003c/emu003e2025 stud DB u003cstrongu003eDamarius Russellu003c/strongu003e did a great job of validating the play speed you see on film this spring. In the season opener of the 2024 outdoor season, u003cstrongu003eRussellu003c/strongu003e cranked out a u003cstrongu003e10.97 100M timeu003c/strongu003e, breaking that all-important sub-11-second mark with a ton of track meets still on the schedule in the ever-important junior year off-season. u003cstrongu003eRussellu003c/strongu003e has always churned out good game tape, showing a smooth u0026amp; fluid DB with instincts in coverage and a ton of pace out of his breaks, and he added a game-changing offensive role to his skillset in 2023, breaking the game open after the catch and showing explosiveness on both sides of the ball. He brings noticeable range and speed to run support as well, so it's a big deal to have his on-field speed verified by a legit track time. u003cstrongu003eRussellu003c/strongu003e was a solidified D1 prospect before the track season started, reeling in three Missouri Valley Football Conference offers from UNI, South Dakota State, and North Dakota State, but the certified track speed is a notable benchmark to keep his recruiting momentum going, and possibly into the FBS space. A 10.8 time would be significant as well. I like how u003cemu003eMayou003c/emu003e used him as a standup EDGE last year, as u003cstrongu003eBoguslawski'su003c/strongu003e speed shows up in his get off, closing, and pursuit speed, all which popped on tape from 2023. The rising senior also possesses a little bit of bend, and is strong enough to pop, absorb contact, and disengage from 6A OTs, and he was productive in both run defense and pass rushing reps as a junior. Speed showed up in a RB rep as well. Going to be a high-quality new addition to the 2025 Big Board, u003cstrongu003eBoguslawskiu003c/strongu003e brings a unique skillset to the table as a pass rusher. Only a sophomore, u003cstrongu003eDrakeu003c/strongu003e competed in the 6A non-varsity scene for the Hornets, manning an OLB/SS hybrid type role and laso bringing a ton of production to special teams, blocking kicks and returning the ball for big gains. In five games of action, u003cstrongu003eDrakeu003c/strongu003e brought significant speed off the edge as a blitzer and laid some big hits when he made contact as well, and he's got a physical defensive play style that is also looking for a big hit. You can see his sprinting stance translate to his get-off on the football field, both in a two and three-point stance.
