Continue ReadingAs we enter the 2024 high school football offseason, we have been releasing our rankings updates in the state of Kentucky. This past month has been dedicated to the class of 2027, which is a class that is loaded with talent. Over the past couple weeks, I have focused on the top five players at each position so now I wanted to focus on some key players at each position that landed outside the top five that I believe people should be paying close attention to. With that being said, I will be doing a “Stock Watch” series highlighting each position in the 2027 class. After already covering the offensive and defensive sides of the ball, here are some 2027 “ATH” to keep an eye on that make an impact at multiple positions.
Anderson Lauffer Anderson Lauffer 6’0″ | ATH Paintsville | 2027 State KY is a player that caught my attention with a very impressive freshman year. He finished this past season as his team’s leading receiver, catching 22 passes for 568 yards and eight touchdowns in 11 games. Lauffer is very dangerous after the catch, showing the ability to use his speed and elusiveness in the open field to turn short passes/screens into big plays at any given moment. He also scored one rushing touchdown and played a key role on defense, finishing the year with 27 tackles, one tackle for loss, and four interceptions. Lauffer doesn’t currently hold any offers but he is definitely a player to keep an eye on over the next few seasons.
JB Woolum JB Woolum 6’0″ | 170 lbs | ATH Belfry | 2027 State KY is another two-way player that stood out as a freshman. On defense, he lines up at corner where he is very reliable in zone coverage. He does a great job of reading route combinations and breaking on the ball with perfect timing to make a play. Woolum finished this past season with two interceptions and several pass breakups in 12 games. He also finished the year with 48 tackles and one sack. Woolum is also an electric playmaker on offense, finishing this past season with 19 carries for 264 yards and two touchdowns. JB doesn’t currently hold any offers but will be a player to watch heading into his sophomore year.
Highlights
Jonah Arnett Jonah Arnett 6’1″ | 160 lbs | ATH Raceland | 2027 State KY is a player that stood out to me when watching his freshman year film. On offense, he lines up at receiver where he is an impressive route runner, showing the ability to create separation with the breaks in his routes. He also has the speed to turn up the field to pick up yards after the catch. Arnett finished this past season with eight catches for 96 yards and two touchdowns in nine games. He also played a key role on defense, finishing the year with 17 tackles, two tackles for loss, one interception, and one fumble recovery returned for a touchdown. Jonah doesn’t currently hold any offers but he will be a player to keep an eye on as he continues to develop.
Highlights
Daven Hood Daven Hood 5’11” | 165 lbs | ATH Murray | 2027 State KY is a player who was very impressive in his freshman season. On offense, Hood is a very dangerous deep threat at receiver, showing the speed to blow by opposing defensive backs. He also has very reliable hands, showing the ability to make catches away from his body through contact. Hood finished this past season with 27 receptions for 309 yards and two touchdowns in 11 games. He also scored one rushing touchdown and made an impact on defense, finishing the year with 54 tackles and an interception. Daven doesn’t currently hold any offers but will be a player to keep an eye on over the next few seasons.
The final ATH on my 2027 “Stock Watch” list is Ty Ashley Ty Ashley 6’2″ | 180 lbs | ATH Owensboro | 2027 State KY from Owensboro. Ashley lined up mainly at linebacker this past season where he was very impressive against the run. He showed the ability to read his keys and flow downhill to the ball carrier quickly to make the tackle in the open field. Ashley finished this past season with 39 tackles and two tackles for loss in 12 games. He also served as his team’s back up quarterback, completing 2/2 passes for 53 yards and a touchdown. Ty doesn’t currently hold any offers but should be a player to keep an eye on as he continues to develop.
