A Class A offensive lineman who caught my eye as a freshman two seasons ago but wanted to wait for more film before putting him in the rankings is Wahama’s Teagan Scott Teagan Scott 6’2″ | 260 lbs | OL Wahama | 2026 State WV . The 6’2 260 guard helped pave the way for the dynamic White Falcons’ rushing attack which saw them total over 4,300 yards on the ground during the 2023 season and a trip to the Class A semifinals. Scott has a strong base and is the ideal size for a young guard prospect. Wahama doesn’t pass much so I didn’t see any pass-blocking film but Scott is a quality run blocker and has been developed well in their style of offense. There was mainly 1-on-1 man blocking in his highlights so it’s tough to say how athletic he is but you can tell he’s a strong young lineman with some power to move defenders off the ball. Scott is likely an under-the-radar name right now at the small school level, but he’s one of the top returning linemen I’ve watched film on in Class A.
Mainly a JV player this season for the state champion Martinsburg Bulldogs but saw some varsity action in lopsided games was linebacker Terrel Cofield. Cofield is a physically built 5’10 180 for a sophomore who could put himself in a position to see more varsity time as a junior in 2024. He sees time at middle linebacker and running back, but I like the outlook for him as a linebacker the most. Cofield’s physicality is apparent on both sides of the ball and is a hard hitter on defense and a bruising power back on offense. If he continues to grow physically and sees more varsity action in the future his ranking will see an increase but for now, he’s one of the very few mainly JV players in our 2026 Top 100. It’s very tough for underclassmen to see varsity action in the Martinsburg program so it’s a testament to his potential that he was able to see some as a sophomore on a state champion team.
Another young linebacker who could see more playing time as a junior in 2024 is Spring Mills’ Devin King Devin King 5’10” | 190 lbs | LB Spring Mills | 2026 State WV . King saw varsity time this season at linebacker and running back on Spring Mills’ best team in school history. The 5’8 190 sophomore can also be used as a fullback in heavy packages and should see an increased role next season. I thought he provided quality value in the Cardinals’ playoff win over Spring Valley in those roles and he seemed to have gotten more playing time later in the season. A big off-season in the weight room would pay dividends for his progression and it would not surprise me to see him be a full-time starter next season on what should be an even better Spring Mills team.
Highlights
The Greenbrier East Spartans had a tough 2023 season, but there’s some young talent in their program that I like. Running back Nathan Suttle Nathan Suttle 5’10” | 155 lbs | RB Greenbrier East | 2026 State WV is one of three 2026 Greenbrier East prospects who debuted in the rankings this update and had a very nice sophomore season for the Spartans. The 5’10 155 athlete is also a quality pass catcher out of the backfield and in the slot and has good speed and quickness. Even being a smaller running back at this point, Suttle plays with an edge and toughness that will benefit him moving forward and something you like seeing in a young player. Suttle was a PRZ WV Week Eight Class AAA standout performer after a huge performance against Ripley for their first victory of the season rushing for 121 yards and three touchdowns while also returning a kickoff 91 yards for another score. Greenbrier East has a nice 2026 trio of Suttle, QB Brody Hamric Brody Hamric 6’3″ | 170 lbs | QB Greenbrier East | 2026 State WV , and TE Grant Burdette Grant Burdette 6’3″ | 225 lbs | TE Greenbrier East | 2026 State WV that they can build around and get their program back on track.
A young defensive back out of Woodrow Wilson who showed some good flashes as a sophomore is AJ Thomas AJ Thomas 5’9″ | 140 lbs | DB Woodrow Wilson | 2026 State WV . Thomas is still growing and would benefit from added size in that 5’7 140 range but the athleticism is there to build on. He was a really good special teams player at times for the Flying Eagles while seeing some spot duty at defensive back. His role should increase further in 2024 for his junior season and could be a full-time starter. Thomas has really good speed and plays above his size which is great to see in a young player. He seems to make big plays when he gets an opportunity which is another trait that will benefit him as he gets older. If he can get a bit bigger I think his ceiling will rise a lot higher and could see his ranking make a big jump. Thomas can get some carries in their Wing-T offense as well and may eventually move to ATH in our 2026 rankings.
I think Independence WR Christian Linksweiler Christian Linksweiler 6’0″ | 175 lbs | WR Independence | 2026 State WV is primed for a big breakout junior season for the Patriots and could really make a big jump in the rankings. Receiver highlights were limited but from what was available I saw a lot of good things and you could see the potential he has. Linskweiler is also a quality defensive back where he also showed flashes but I think his potential at receiver can be really high. He has good size already at 6’0 175 and has the family pedigree to develop into a high-level player. Older brother Tyler Linksweiler Tyler Linksweiler 5’10” | 170 lbs | RB Independence | 2024 State WV just finished his senior season rushing for 1,600 yards so younger brother Christian has the athletic background to be a high-ceiling player as well. Linksweiler showed good stem and stack technique on his routes and Independence will be looking for a receiver to be their #1 guy in 2024. With the young talent they have in the program, I think they’ll continue their streak of successful teams and are starting to become a Southern WV power.
Chapmanville linebacker Preston Kovach Preston Kovach 6’2″ | 195 lbs | LB Chapmanville | 2026 State WV played in just 6 games due to injury as a sophomore but was a very productive player during that time. Kovach totaled 71 tackles in 2023 averaging nearly 12 per game and could bolster his ranking with a fully healthy junior season. He has good size already as a sophomore measuring in at 6’2 195 and plays with the kind of physicality that you like to see at linebacker from an athlete his age. I’d like to see him playing faster next season with quicker read and react time which would take his game to a level. Kovach is a sure tackler though who has the benefit of good size and strength as a young player. You can see the potential of what he can eventually become if he continues developing. Kovach debuts as a Top 15 linebacker in the 2026 and is just inside our Top 100 at #99 overall.
The best days of the Capital Cougars are ahead of them as they have some up-and-coming young talent that will help restore their program to where it once was. WR/DB Damian Johnson Damian Johnson 5’8″ | 150 lbs | DB Capital | 2026 State WV is one of six 2026 prospects from Capital inside our updated 2026 rankings and I expect him to make a jump in the rankings as time goes on. The biggest thing for him will be increasing in size but the athleticism is there and he has some high upside. Johnson could end up being ranked as a WR or ATH but DB is where he’ll start out where he ranks #12 overall. He has next-level athleticism showing good speed and quickness on film with some playmaking ability in all three phases of the game. If Johnson can grow a couple of inches in the next two years it will really raise his ceiling. He could end up inside the Top 50 in time but Johnson is built well for his current size and has all of the athletic traits he needs.
