Continue ReadingTough to not name this young man DB MVP. We had an exceptional DB group come through this camp, with eight total corners being named top performers post camp. Kellenberg Memorial’s Christian DaCosta was consistently annoying, consistently pesky from start to finish. Ran a sub 4.7 40, standing at 5’7 and weighing in at 155 pounds. Your typical build for a HS corner. Attentive to coaches during Indis, ran and performed with the same motor and intensity all throughout the camp, love seeing a DB this charged up. He was out to prove something, he was in the running for MVP until the last rep. Can flip his hips in a blink of an eye, great arm/hand pumper that allows him to hit speed gears after opening up his hips. Stayed on the hip of pretty much every wideout that tested him vertically during 1v1s. Kid has the long speed to stay with long-striders or speedsters downfield. I’d bet this shows up on tape too. Awesome job all camp locating the football on it’s way down. Fantastic feet, so quick that he can makeup for false steps right now. Guarantee this kid could produce at wideout if need be. Was a fun watch.

Jayvon Sotry is a senior out of my backyard, attends West Catholic, a school I cover in Pennsylvania. I wasn’t aware of his attendance for a bit until I recognized his name. The senior impressed during the combine portion of the event, jumping over nine feet on two occasions, as well as running back-to-back sub 4.7 40s. The young man is currently unoffered but gained some interest from coaches watching DBs in this one. I didn’t get the best look at Story during 1v1s but I saw him work a ton during Indis. Overty physical as you can expect, a senior against some younger kids, Story’s one of the heavier and more filled-out corners that attended the event. Happy he came through, I know some coaches liked what they saw.
Weighed in at 185 pounds, standing at 5’9. One of the heavier defensive backs present at this event. I immediately thought he might be a factor at linebacker or safety just looking at his build. Thick kid with broad shoulders, I’m unsure what he plays at West Babylon but I guarantee he could work as a box safety or even running back looking at his stature. This being said, the kid still performed well during Indis and 1v1s. Mohan was undetered aligning up against much smaller, faster prospects. He was up for the challenge, I appreciate Mohan being up for that challenge, says a lot. Was named a top performer by myself. Llikely a prospect to shine even brighter in pads.
Could have easily been named the MVP of this awesome group. I come across small DB groups at camps, winning MVP out of a group of ten doesn’t mean much., Yet this young man stood out embedded in one of the deeper DB classes I’ve seen at one of our camps. Let’s start with the impressive 40 time registered by the Wall HS senior. 4.57 40, weighing in at an official 170 pounds. Tack on an 8’11 Broad and a near sub-7 second L drill, you’ve got a kid who took testing very seriously. Then watch him work during 1v1s. Outstanding hand strikes when up on the LOS. Took the challenge of pressing every kid who aligned in front of him during 1v1s. Can shoot his off-hand and open up his hips to almost force leverage in his favor. The 40 time translates, he’ll punch and run with the best burners at the camp. In the dark as to what his tape looks like, same thing goes for his grades, but he certainly grabbed my attention as an un-offered senior.

I can see why this young man is ranked as a top 20 DB in his class. A complete package at DB. Not too short, standing at 5’9.5, weighing a tad bit over 150 pounds. Sub 4.8 40 time, 8’11 Broad, is currently a junior. Would likely be my pick for top DB if we had to suit up for a scrimmage at the end of the camp. I’d certainly use this all-around ATH at RB or WR depending on what his hands look like. Did a phenomenal job when the football was in the air during 1v1s. Can locate and best of all, he has the catch-up speed to deter wideouts at the catch point. Several times Baldwin was tested deep, just to stay in phase when the ball was on it’s way down. Exemplaray feet during his backpedal hardly any wasted motion or false steps when closing on the football. Covered an out-route during 1v1s, his rep was teach tape. Again, I feel like this kid could easily play both ways based on how he performed in this one. Fluid athlete.

A young man who should have certainly been ranked a long time ago, I’m basing that off of his camp performance, as well as his tape out of Elizabeth HS. De Rosa didn’t test in this one, yet he still made a huge impression specifically during 1v1s. Long arms, a good GPA from what I’ve heard. Was seasoned in terms of technique, not a ton of feedback thrown his way during Indis or 1v1s. A ton of praise and acknowledgement if anything. Makes sense considering the amount of playing time accumulated over the years, he is a senior after all. A senior without any offers I might add. I’ll be sure to plug his name as hard as I can to coaches recruiting NJ. Named one of eight top performers.
Here’s a young man I was late on. I hadn’t had his number written down up until I saw him dominate 1v1s. He was also brought up to me by a DB coach who had obviously watched his group from start to finish. My eyes were plugged on 102 from the moment I realized how he was operating during 1v1s. Didn’t lose a rep while my eyes were on him. Played in-breaking routes well. Close to 5’11 without cleats, one of the bigger corners at the camp yet he handled speed well. Annoying and handsy. Used leverage well so it was a mistake for wideouts to try this kid inside. Distance limited between he and the hip of the wideout, looked like he was mirroring kids within the first five yards of each rep. Good player, ranked as a top 20 DB in his class.

MVP of one of the better DBs groups I’ve had the pleasure of covering. Start to finish, I was blown away by this kid. Others might say they have the edge over Elizabeth’s McDougald because the senior didn’t participate in the 40 or broad. Makes sense, yet that should prove how excellent the young man performed in Indis and 1v1s. 5’9, 166 pounds yet performed like he stood at six feet tall and 200+. Physical DB whose hand strikes are felt. Purposeful approach at the LOS, I can tell he’s seasoned in pre/post snap leverage techniques. Again, fires off his hands well with intent of directing a wideout to his liking. Full confidence too, didn’t want to hear that any DB or wideout was better than he was. Should be ranked. A kid whose tape I turned on immediately after the event ended. A senior worthy of attention from coaches, along with his teammate Isaiah De Rosa Isaiah De Rosa 5’10” | 170 lbs | DB Elizabeth | 2024 NJ .
