The goal is to move guys over and rank them as they earn Varsity time and play well on the field. There are only 20 ranked players currently, but the list has been created and we are off and running!
#1 – Cole Stephens Cole Stephens 6'2" | 165 lbs | QB Greencastle | 2027 State IN – Greencastle – QB – 6’2″ 165lbs
The first recruit we looked at in the 2027 class was Stephens. He forced my hand back at a camp in May or June of last year. He was so good that he left me no choice but to leave and go talk about him. Well, his freshman season was nothing short of spectacular. All the traits I saw in person, played out on the field. Stephens knows where to go with the ball, gets it out on time, and is fairly accurate. He doesn’t panic in the pocket and can handle pressure in his face. There’s no way you’d watch his tape and think, “Yeah, that’s a freshman.” He’s ahead of his years in terms of football knowledge and getting the offense set. His freshman year saw him help Greencastle go 8-3 while he put up an impressive stat line of 2675 passing yards on 67% completion and 34 TDs. While he is mobile and can run, he didn’t do much this year. He extended a few drives and picked up a few key first downs, but his main focus was letting it rip, which he did. Stephens was impressive as a freshman and should build upon it over the coming years, and if he does, he’ll be the State’s #1 player.

#2 – Izayveon Moore Izayveon Moore 5'8" | 165 lbs | RB Lawrence North | 2027 State IN – Lawrence North – RB – 5’8″ 165lbs
Whenever a running back comes out and has the freshman year in the Indy region that Moore does, it should be a warning to other schools in the area that he’s going to be a problem. Moore is dynamic, quick-hitting the hole, and is fairly versatile. His feet are fairly clean and they stay underneath his frame. Moore doesn’t get run down very often but seems to be in the open field all the time. He’s able to get small and shoot through the backside of a hole that some RBs couldn’t even see. He’s not a big back, so he’s low to the ground and can lose defenders behind the line. His freshman year saw him put up over 1000 rushing yards. To be specific, he put up 1009 rushing yards and 10 TDs. He then added 37 receptions and was a big focal point of the offense in both phases. It’s clear they wanted to get him involved and get him involved often. Moore’s talent is obvious and with the year he just had, he should beginning to pick up steam in no time.

#3 – Abe Edwards Abe Edwards 6'3" | 240 lbs | DL Eastern | 2027 State IN – Eastern – DL – 6’3″ 240lbs
The pair of brothers you don’t want to face are at Eastern High School together. For the past few years, Abe’s older brother, Eli, has been terrorizing offenses in their area. This past season, he got a new running mate, his brother, and together they were quite the defense. Abe has similar traits as his brother and was on the field every game. Abe started right away and made a difference in week 1. He’s physical and has good length. He’s able to fight off run blocks on the interior as well as rush the passer. He’s got snap timing skills and sometimes, jumps so early it seems like he’s offsides, but he’s not, he’s just that quick at the line. For a guy who stands at 6’3″, he’s also able to run fairly well and cover a ton of ground. On the year he put up a staggering 112 tackles, 18.5 TFLs, 2.5 sacks, and picked off 4 passes. Edwards was a phenomenal addition to their defense this year, and could easily be the most desired lineman in the class when it’s all said and done.

#4 – Keenan Mowery Keenan Mowery 6'3" | 230 lbs | LB South Putnam | 2027 State IN – South Putnam – LB – 6’3″ 230lbs
One of the most impressive young LBs in the country, not the state, is in South Putnam, Indiana. Mowery’s frame and size is ridiculous, for any age, let alone a freshman. Then, when you find out that he can squat 600lbs already, you get even more excited. Well, what if I also said that the physical freak who can squat over 600lbs as a Freshman in HS also just put up over 100 tackles, 20+ TFLs, 2 sacks, 1 interception returned for 40 yards, batted down 4 passes, and forced 3 fumbles? Well, that’s where Mowery stands as of now. His tape is some of the most impressive stuff I’ve seen for a young LB. It’s his physical presence combined with the ability to be a leader right away that you can’t help but notice. Guys were referring to him, and he always seemed to have the answer. I still struggle to believe that the tape I was just watching was from a true freshman in high school, but it was. Mowery is impressive, has my attention, and should be a top name for years to come.

#5 – Noah Brown Noah Brown 6'0" | 240 lbs | OL East Central | 2027 State IN – East Central – OL – 6’0″ 240lbs
Coming fresh off the Prep Redzone Indiana Showcase is Brown, who stood out the entire time. I then went and watched his tape afterward and was impressed. So, why does that put him the top 5 though? Well, to start as a Freshman is 1 thing. To start for 1 of the best programs in the state, and to block for the best RB in the state, all as a freshman say quite a bit to me. I know right now, he’s a bit undersized, but I’m not at all worried about that. He’s young and going to continue to grow into his frame. But, it’s his footwork, hand placement, and attention to detail that have him so highly ranked for me. He’s great in pass protection and can go both ways. At the camp, we had him going right. He normally is on the left side, but switched it up without a hitch. He’s violent in the running game and does a good job driving with his feet and keeping his hands to the inside. He’s also well-balanced and just seems to have the instincts you NEED to be successful at the next level. Brown is young, but someone I have no issue pounding the table for because he’s going to develop into a premier lineman.
