Today, we will be focusing on some #TN2025 standouts that have left their mark on the field this past week and established themselves as high-level playmakers.
Highlights
At the top of my list of notable performers is Kalen Edwards Kalen Edwards 6'4" | 315 lbs | DL Dyersburg | 2025 State TN , a 6-foot-4, 315-pound defensive lineman at Dyersburg High School. Edwards and the Trojans are coming off a 51-0 blowout victory over Liberty Tech Magnet this past week. What makes Edwards so explosive is his size and quick execution off the snap, showcasing his ability to both get to the quarterback and create disruption in the pocket. Another aspect of Edwards that makes a difference is his ability to lock down the backfield and stop the offense from gaining ground.
I am additionally impressed with Carson Lawrence Carson Lawrence 6'2" | 180 lbs | DB McCallie | 2025 State TN , a 6-foot-2, 180-pound athlete at McCallie High School. Lawrence and the Blue Tornado remain undefeated on the year, defeating Knoxville Catholic 31-27 last week. In addition to his ability to apply pressure, Lawrence impresses me with his ability to both read the offense and use bursts of speed to get in prime position to pick off the quarterback. Lawrence also makes his presence known in coverage, using his physical edge and wingspan to distract receivers and shut down the long pass.
Highlights
Claiming the number three spot is Isaiah Groves Isaiah Groves 6'0" | 185 lbs | RB East Robertson | 2025 State TN , a 6-foot-0, 185-pound running back at East Robertson High School. Groves and the Indians recorded a 49-21 rout of White House-Heritage this past week. Groves has been a high-level ground weapon due to his ability to withstand contact in the pocket and find openings to march into the open field. Groves also impresses me with his breakaway speed and ability to be untouchable once he breaches the defensive line. I also like Groves due to his reliability on third-down and his ability to breach the endzone.
Highlights
Another skilled prospect to keep an eye on is Sam Evitts Sam Evitts 6'3" | 190 lbs | QB Sequatchie County | 2025 State TN , a 6-foot-3, 185-pound quarterback at Sequatchie County High School. Evitts and the Indians picked up a 34-0 blowout victory over Grundy County last week. Evitts contributes solid composure under center, making challenging plays even under heavy pressure. Evitts also has excellent arm strength and a smooth release, consistently putting his team on the scoreboard last week with his strong deep passing. Evitts also impressed me with his ability to break tackles and maneuver the defense on the ground.
Highlights
Coming in at number five on my list is Harrison Brownlee Harrison Brownlee 6'2" | 180 lbs | ATH Columbia Academy | 2025 State TN , a 6-foot-2, 175-pound athlete at Columbia Academy. Brownlee and the Bulldogs claimed a 62-0 blowout win over Mount Juliet Christian Academy this past week. What stands out most about Brownlee is his solid field awareness and ability to suffocate offensive playmakers in the pocket, showing off his quickness and physicality. Brownlee also caught my attention offensively with his catching ability and versatility as a receiver, proving that he can blast into the endzone untouched by the defense.
CJ Jimcoily
CJ Jimcoily
Also worth mentioning is CJ Jimcoily, a 6-foot-3, 195-pound defensive back at Lipscomb Academy. Jimcoily and the Mustangs are coming off a hard-fought 24-17 victory over Brentwood Academy last week. What makes Jimcoily so impactful is his ability to read the offense like a book and attack the ball in the air to haul in interceptions. Jimcoily also impresses with his ability to protect the backfield and exert his strength to stop the rush. Another aspect of Jimcoily’s playstyle that stands out is footwork, consistency in predicting the rush and his ability to make commanding stops from along the edge.
