Class 5A certainly seems like one of the more competitive classes in the state this season. There are six undefeated teams and a few one-loss teams that have what it takes to make a run in November. But will the 5A playoffs actually be competitive or will defending champion and top-ranked Carl Albert run away with another gold ball? The Titans came into this season as a heavy favorite to win another state championship and as we get closer to the playoffs, nothing has really changed that opinion. In this post, we take a look at the Titans this season, what they have left and some of their top standouts that have shined bright this fall.

Carl Albert lost two games last season on their way to the 17th state title in school history. They dropped their season opener to Coweta and then tripped up against Muskogee in week two. This season, they avenged both losses with emphatic wins. They opened the year with a 38-10 win over Coweta, followed by a 40-13 rivalry win over Midwest City. Then came a 1 VS 1 showdown in Muskogee as 5A's top-ranked Titans took on the 6A-2 #1 Roughers. The Titans left no doubt that night as they won 43-20, making a rather loud statement to the rest of the state that Carl Albert was indeed for real.

Over the last month, the Titans have won four games by an average margin of 65-6. But this week kicks off the toughest part of their district schedule. They play annual rival Bishop McGuinness this week at home. Then they go on the road, in a short week to face #3 Guthrie. After a bye week in week nine, they will host #7 Piedmont in week ten. As we mentioned earlier in the week, the McGuinness game was the turning point of Carl Albert's season a year ago. They handed the Irish their first loss and it was clear that night that running back [player_tooltip player_id='360239' first='Xavier' last='Robinson'] was one of the best players in the state. He would go on to win the PRZ-Oklahoma Player Of The Year award.

The Titans need to take care of business this week and not get caught looking ahead to next week's top three showdown with Guthrie. The fact that it's a rivalry game with McGuinness should keep Carl Albert focused on week seven. But for us, we can't help but look ahead to next week's clash with a Guthrie team that has been nothing short of dominant this season. The Blue Jays have shut out five of their six opponents, including McGuinness and Piedmont in the last two weeks. They've only given up three points all year and that came in a 20-3 win over 4A's #4 Tuttle. That could be a potential playoff preview but first, the Titans have to take care of business on Friday night.

Davis would go on to be one of the state's leaders in sacks and earn All State honors. This season, Davis has moved from the defensive line to the linebacker position, a spot that will help transition him to the next level as a college prospect, and he's flourished. Davis is leading the Titans in tackles by quite a bit. He has 73 on the season, 23 more than the second-leading tackler. He's also tied for the lead in tackles for loss. While his sack numbers have gone down, Davis is still one of the more disruptive defensive players in Class 5A and in the state. Davis is a 2025 prospect that we're even more intrigued by with the position change.","_player_evaluations_0_evaluation":"field_62aba51aecf34","player_evaluations_1_player":["432374"],"_player_evaluations_1_player":"field_62ab9d62ecf2c","player_evaluations_1_override_profile_image":"","_player_evaluations_1_override_profile_image":"override-player-profile-image","player_evaluations_1_not_in_database":"","_player_evaluations_1_not_in_database":"field_62aba48cecf2d","player_evaluations_1_evaluation":"Already committed to OU, when junior quarterback [player_tooltip player_id='432374' first='Kevin' last='Sperry'] moved into Oklahoma from Texas and landed at Carl Albert, it was like the rich was getting richer. But Sperry had to go to work to earn the starting spot but that happened rather early and he hasn't let go of it. What's impressive about Sperry is that his best game so far this season came against the toughest team on the road in Muskogee. With the Roughers looking to contain Carl Albert's star running back, Sperry carried the offense with nearly 300 yards and three touchdowns on 15-19 passing. He also added over 50 yards and a touchdown on the ground. It was at that moment that we knew that Sperry was indeed one of the top quarterbacks in the state and that it would take a perfect game from an opponent to beat the Titans.","_player_evaluations_1_evaluation":"field_62aba51aecf34","player_evaluations_2_player":["294261"],"_player_evaluations_2_player":"field_62ab9d62ecf2c","player_evaluations_2_override_profile_image":"","_player_evaluations_2_override_profile_image":"override-player-profile-image","player_evaluations_2_not_in_database":"","_player_evaluations_2_not_in_database":"field_62aba48cecf2d","player_evaluations_2_evaluation":"One of Sperry's top targets is fellow junior [player_tooltip player_id='294261' first='Trey' last='Washington'] and he has transformed into a promising prospect in the state's 2025 class. We mentioned over the summer how Washington has obviously putting in the work in the weight room to add weight and become a stronger prospect to go with his size. Washington is the second-leading receiver in the Carl Albert offense. He comes into this week's game against Bishop McGuinness with three consecutive games of at least one touchdown reception. Washington has also been moved around on the defensive side of the ball and a very underrated element of Washington's game is his punting. He's a next level prospect as a receiver or tight end but he's one of the state's best punters and that should not be overlooked moving forward.","_player_evaluations_2_evaluation":"field_62aba51aecf34","player_evaluations_3_player":["598824"],"_player_evaluations_3_player":"field_62ab9d62ecf2c","player_evaluations_3_override_profile_image":"","_player_evaluations_3_override_profile_image":"override-player-profile-image","player_evaluations_3_not_in_database":"","_player_evaluations_3_not_in_database":"field_62aba48cecf2d","player_evaluations_3_evaluation":"Few 2025 prospects had more momentum from the offseason than Carl Albert's [player_tooltip player_id='598824' first='Trystan' last='Haynes'] as a prospect. His recruitment absolutely exploded following his sophomore season and he became a true national prospect and jumped into the top five of our state's 2025 prospect rankings. Haynes has not only lived up to all the preseason and offseason hype, he's exceeded most of those expectations. On offense, he's Sperry's leading receiver in the passing game. He leads the Titans in receptions, yards and touchdowns. On defense, Haynes is a lockdown defensive back. And then on special teams, he's taken two kicks back for touchdowns and a punt back for six. Haynes has been a touchdown machine. He had several moments in the Muskogee game where it was clear why every school in the country wants him.","_player_evaluations_3_evaluation":"field_62aba51aecf34","player_evaluations_4_player":["360239"],"_player_evaluations_4_player":"field_62ab9d62ecf2c","player_evaluations_4_override_profile_image":"","_player_evaluations_4_override_profile_image":"override-player-profile-image","player_evaluations_4_not_in_database":"","_player_evaluations_4_not_in_database":"field_62aba48cecf2d","player_evaluations_4_evaluation":"And finally, Carl Albert's senior running back [player_tooltip player_id='360239' first='Xavier' last='Robinson'] is looking to become the first repeat winner of the PRZ-Oklahoma Player Of The Year award after running away with it last season. And he's off to a great start. He already has over 20 rushing touchdowns on the season. Last week's win over Southeast was the first game this season that Robinson didn't find the end zone multiple times. Granted, he still scored once and only had two carries on the night. Robinson has once again put up some impressive numbers and it's going to be interesting to see how they compare to the record-breaking season he had a year ago. One of the more highly anticipated match-ups of the season, regardless of class, comes next week when Robinson and the Titan offense face a stingy Guthrie defense.","_player_evaluations_4_evaluation":"field_62aba51aecf34","player_evaluations":5,"_player_evaluations":"field_62aba7547dc44"},"mode":"edit","alignText":"left","anchor":"acf-block-6527006738bb4"} /-->
