Surprisingly, a lot of underclassmen have been performing well in the early part of 2023. In this report, there are prospects from every class receiving interest for the next level. So sit back and let me catch you up on what’s been going on along the recruiting trail in Western Pennsylvania. For this second part of the Week 4 Recruiting Report series, I’ll be featuring the underclassmen that are making noise.
Scoop has been lighting up defenses ever since the season began. Scoop is performing like the best WR in Western Pa, and he’s only a sophomore. The underclassman is a dynamic slot receiver that’s elusive and has the speed to rip the top off the defense. Even though Smith is small in stature, he’s definitely the big dog on the gridiron. Besides his clear dominance from the slot, Scoop is also a very dangerous returner. The ’26 prospect is clearly Cameron Walter Cameron Walter 6’1″ | 180 lbs | QB Woodland Hills | 2026 State PA ‘s and OC Cam Sadler’s top deep threat. His numbers were impressive on Friday, catching 10/210 yds and 3 TDs. For his efforts, his latest FBS offer came by way of Temple across the state in Philly. Smith is a three-sport star who also holds D1 basketball offers and was clocked at 10.7 in the 100-meter dash. Smith also has football scholarship offers from UNLV, Nebraska, and Toledo.
Robinson has been on a hot streak since the summer started. Last week, he continued his run of FBS offers by receiving opportunities from Colorado, USC, and Temple. There’s no surprise as to why the great Deion Sanders would want to offer KyShawn Robinson. He has FBS footwork, breaking ability, ball skills, and isn’t afraid to hit somebody. I was very impressed watching Kyshawn ballhawk any pass thrown his way at the Top 150 camp. Robinson has fielded Power Five offers from PSU, Florida, Nebraska, WVU, Syracuse, Texas A&M, and Pitt, to name a few.
Khalil is another 2027 freshman who is built like a senior. Taylor received his biggest offer thus far from the Pitt Panthers on Thursday. Taylor has been a standout on offense, defense, and special teams in ’23. As an outside receiver, he’s a clear deep threat with FBS ball skills on both sides of the ball. Taylor’s 6’0, 185-pound frame, mixed with strong hands and speed, is very advantageous on the backend at safety as well. Khalil isn’t afraid to come up from strong safety and make open-field tackles in space. His ball skills are an asset when he’s making plays in cover 2 on defense. I watched Taylor in person this summer, and he’s definitely most dangerous on fade routes. One thing I didn’t know was that he’s capable of taking a kickoff back at any time. Khalil also received an offer from the Akron Zips on Wednesday of last week.
Bonner is another big 2027 prospect who’s built like a grown man already at 6’3, 180 pounds. Bonner was offered his first D1 scholarship from the Univ of Pittsburgh. Carter, like his 2027 counterparts Kemon Spell Kemon Spell 5’10” | 175 lbs | RB McKeesport | 2027 State PA and Khalil Taylor Khalil Taylor 5’11” | 180 lbs | ATH Seton LaSalle | 2027 State PA , is a standout on offense and defense. He’s a flat-out problem and a serious deep threat with strong pass-catching hands. Carter runs good routes and does a good job of catching passes away from his body. His skillset and confidence will continue to rise, which will be a problem for opponents. His 6’3 frame, coupled with ball skills, reveals itself when he’s intercepting passes at the highest point at safety. When it’s all said and done, Carter will have offers from various Power Fives, including Penn State and West Virginia.
Allen was offered his first scholarship from the D1 FBS Temple Owls today. Jamar has the size at 6’2, 280 lbs, great bend, and strength mixed with nastiness for the interior D-Line. He plays with a low center of gravity, which allows him to generate power, shocking offensive linemen. He’s very stout and very difficult to move in the run game. He’s violent and regularly gets TFLs on inside rushes. His agility and motor are good, especially being a prospect of his size. He’s an effective pass rusher, frequently creating pressure from the interior. His strength is apparent when watching him engage and disengage offensive linemen. I previously wrote an article highlighting Allen as a prospect to watch in 2026, and he’s still on the watchlist.
