Trey Lester Trey Lester 6'1" | 165 lbs | ATH Sherman | 2026 State WV – Sherman ’26 ATH
Sophomore Trey Lester Trey Lester 6'1" | 165 lbs | ATH Sherman | 2026 State WV of Sherman is someone we identified in the off-season when updating our rankings and the 2026 prospect impressed us on film and is building on the success he had as a freshman this season. Lester had a monster game in a big 38-32 win over Class AA Liberty-Raleigh. Lester just narrowly missed the 300-yard rushing mark with 296 yards and scored four touchdowns in the game. He would also add four point after conversions and made six tackles on defense to cap off an incredible night.
Gavin Derby Gavin Derby 5'8" | 155 lbs | ATH Valley | 2025 WV – Valley ’25 ATH
Valley 2025 QB/ATh Gavin Derby Gavin Derby 5'8" | 155 lbs | ATH Valley | 2025 WV makes our weekly standouts for the second time this season with another great performance in a 44-31 win over Frontier (OH). Derby is a threat with his arm and his legs and used both to slice up the Frontier defense. The junior playmaker passed for 171 yards and two touchdowns while running for another 136 yards. Derby made our Preseason Class A All-State Team and is backing up that selection this season with his play.
Sean Winfrey Sean Winfrey 6'0" | 185 lbs | RB Tyler Consolidated | 2024 State WV – Tyler Consolidated ’24 RB
Tyler Consolidated’s Sean Winfrey Sean Winfrey 6'0" | 185 lbs | RB Tyler Consolidated | 2024 State WV could likely make our weekly standouts every week as this is the third time he has made it through the first four weeks. Winfrey is the top Class A running back in the state and he’s showing why in his senior season. Winfrey rushed for another 151 yards and 58 yards receiving while also making 5.5 tackles, a forced fumble, and six total touchdowns in their win over Webster County.
Klypsan Wallace Klypsan Wallace 5'8" | 180 lbs | RB Cameron | 2025 WV – Cameron ’25 RB
Not far behind Winfrey in the conversation of Class A’s top running back in junior Klypsan Wallace Klypsan Wallace 5'8" | 180 lbs | RB Cameron | 2025 WV of Cameron who makes another weekly standouts himself. The John Marshall transfer is coming into his own for his new team and had a big performance running the ball in a 54-6 win over Magnolia. Wallace toted the ball 22 times for 207 yards and four touchdowns. Through the first four games of the season, Wallace has totaled 633 yards rushing and ten touchdowns while averaging 8.4 yards per carry.
Josiah DeMoss Josiah DeMoss 5'11" | 200 lbs | LB St. Marys | 2024 State WV – St. Marys ’24 ATH/LB
St. Marys do-it-all athlete Josiah DeMoss Josiah DeMoss 5'11" | 200 lbs | LB St. Marys | 2024 State WV is emerging as one of the top overall athletes in Class A this season with another impressive performance against Wirt County. DeMoss hauled in three Ryan Kent Ryan Kent 5'8" | 150 lbs | ATH St. Marys | 2025 WV touchdown passes in the contest on their way to a 34-12 win over a solid Wirt County squad. DeMoss had touchdown catches of 7, 11, and 50 yards while also continuing to be a major factor on the defensive side of the ball. DeMoss and the reloaded Blue Devils are now 4-0 to start the season.
Ryan Kent Ryan Kent 5'8" | 150 lbs | ATH St. Marys | 2025 WV – St. Marys ’24 QB
Senior St. Marys quarterback Ryan Kent Ryan Kent 5'8" | 150 lbs | ATH St. Marys | 2025 WV dished out three touchdown passes to the aforementioned Josiah DeMoss Josiah DeMoss 5'11" | 200 lbs | LB St. Marys | 2024 State WV and also added another score with his legs to bring his total to four for the night. Kent was an efficient 6 of 11 for 118 yards and three touchdowns while also adding 78 yards and his fourth score on the ground. The senior Kent is a quality athlete that can hurt you in both facets of the quarterback position and he’s a big reason why the Blue Devils are undefeated thus far after losing a lot of talent to graduation last season.
Braden McWreath Braden McWreath 6'2" | 185 lbs | WR Wheeling Central Catholic | 2025 State WV – Wheeling Central ’25 WR/DB
Wheeling Central’s Braden McWreath Braden McWreath 6'2" | 185 lbs | WR Wheeling Central Catholic | 2025 State WV is quickly becoming one of Class A’s top overall athletes in the state and the dynamic junior had yet another monster game for the Maroon Knights in their 47-6 win over Midland Trail. McWreath is talented in both the running and passing game and rushed for 141 yards and a touchdown while also catching 6 passes for 152 yards and two more scores. McWreath totaled 294 all-purpose yards in the game and also added 5 tackles, 1 TFL, and a fumble recovery on defense capping off another phenomenal night for the junior which is becoming a trend for him.
Maxwell Molessa Maxwell Molessa 6'0" | 190 lbs | ATH Williamstown | 2024 State WV – Williamstown ’24 ATH
Maxwell Molessa Maxwell Molessa 6'0" | 190 lbs | ATH Williamstown | 2024 State WV has been so good this season that you kind of take his performances for granted as he had yet another huge game in a 67-8 blowout win over Ritchie County. Molessa may just be the best athlete in Class A and he showed why this week. The senior WVU baseball commit threw for 158 yards and two touchdowns on 6 of 9 passing but also had a big night with his legs. Molessa rushed 7 times for 140 yards and another touchdown on an incredible 20 yards per carry average. Through the first four weeks of the 2023 season, Molessa had totaled 900 total yards and 16 touchdowns while playing limited snaps due to blowout wins for Williamstown.
Sawyer VanMatre Sawyer VanMatre 6'3" | 220 lbs | ATH Wahama | 2024 State WV – Wahama ’24 ATH
Our Preseason Class A Offensive Player of the Year Sawyer VanMatre Sawyer VanMatre 6'3" | 220 lbs | ATH Wahama | 2024 State WV had another big night for the Wahama White Falcons in their 56-20 win over Calhoun County. VanMatre was 8 of 10 passing for 117 yards and a touchdown but as usual, the senior quarterback was deadly with his legs. He carried the ball just five times for 70 yards but scored three more times to bring his total to four on the night in limited playing time. VanMatre has 895 yards of offense and 14 touchdowns on offense through the first four weeks of the season.
Ethan Rosenau Ethan Rosenau 6'2" | 190 lbs | QB Tucker County | 2024 State WV – Tucker County ’24 QB
It was just another night at the office for senior Tucker County quarterback Ethan Rosenau Ethan Rosenau 6'2" | 190 lbs | QB Tucker County | 2024 State WV in a closely contested 34-28 win over Gilmer County. Rosenau tossed five touchdown passes accounting for five scores for Tucker County. He had another very efficient night completing 17 of 19 passes for just under 200 yards. Rosenau has a very impressive 79% completion percentage through the first four games and has three games of having two or fewer incompletions including a perfect 12/12 in week one.
Bryson Elia Bryson Elia 5'10" | 150 lbs | ATH Tug valley | 2026 State WV – Tug Valley ’26 ATH/DB
Tug Valley sophomore Bryson Elia Bryson Elia 5'10" | 150 lbs | ATH Tug valley | 2026 State WV is putting together a great sophomore season and had another big night in a 54-6 win over East Ridge (KY). Elia eclipsed 200 yards of total offense in the game with a very even split of rushing and receiving yards. He rushed 11 times for 107 yards and two touchdowns while adding another two touchdowns through the air on four catches for 105 yards. Elia was a freshman all-stater last season and is in contention to be a first-teamer this year.
Preston May Preston May 5'9" | 155 lbs | QB Tug Valley | 2027 WV – Tug Valley ’27 QB
Freshman Tug Valley quarterback Preston May Preston May 5'9" | 155 lbs | QB Tug Valley | 2027 WV makes his second appearance on our weekly standouts in his first year of high school football. May had an incredible game throwing five touchdown passes on 13 of 18 completions for 247 yards. This was just his second start at quarterback and he’s now 2 for 2 on being a weekly standout performer. The freshman appears to have a very bright future for the Tug Valley Panthers.
Toby Michael Toby Michael 6'0" | 170 lbs | ATH North Marion | 2026 WV – Hundred ’26 ATH/LB
The dynamic sophomore duo of Toby Michael Toby Michael 6'0" | 170 lbs | ATH North Marion | 2026 WV and Karter Parson Karter Parson 5'9" | 195 lbs | RB North Marion | 2026 WV of the Hundred Hornets is very exciting for one of the smallest high schools in the state. They were carrying the load yet again in their 43-20 win over Millersport (OH). Michael is the starting quarterback for the Hornets and at one of the linebacker spots on defense. He had a nice game through the air with 119 yards and two touchdowns on 7 of 11 completions. Michael is also a very talented runner and athlete and rushed for another 112 yards and three more touchdowns bringing his total to 5 touchdowns on the night. he had 231 yards of offense and added 13 total tackles with two of them going for a loss on defense.
Karter Parson Karter Parson 5'9" | 195 lbs | RB North Marion | 2026 WV – Hundred ’26 RB/LB
The second half of Hundred’s dynamic sophomore duo is running back and linebacker Karter Parson Karter Parson 5'9" | 195 lbs | RB North Marion | 2026 WV . After getting to see him in person in week three, Parson is one of the tougher players I’ve gotten to see. With so few numbers on the Hundred team, he never leaves the field and plays as hard as he can on every play. Parson carried the ball 27 times for 165 yards and a touchdown and also caught three passes for 22 yards and another touchdown. He’s also a standout linebacker and made 14 total tackles with three going for a loss.
Joey Baker Joey Baker 6'0" | 185 lbs | RB Paden City | 2024 State WV – Paden City ’24 RB
Paden City’s Joey Baker Joey Baker 6'0" | 185 lbs | RB Paden City | 2024 State WV has to be one of if not the top active career rushing leaders in the state while starting for his third straight year and seeing a lot of playing time as a freshman. Baker had a dominating game on the ground in their 51-0 win over Mount View. The senior rushed 14 times for 245 yards and three touchdowns while averaging 17.5 yards per carry. He had 277 all-purpose yards in the game and now had over 3,000 yards rushing in his career and staring down his third consecutive 1,000-yard rushing season.
Robert Evans Robert Evans 6'1" | 195 lbs | QB Tolsia | 2027 WV – Tolsia ’27 QB
Another freshman quarterback who impressed this week is Tolsia’s Robert Evans Robert Evans 6'1" | 195 lbs | QB Tolsia | 2027 WV who had a tremendous night in their 46-14 win over Van. Evans accounted for six total touchdowns in the contest with four of them coming through air. He completed 10 passes for 207 yards and also rushed for 55 yards and two more touchdowns. Evans made an impact on defense as well intercepting a pass. Keep an eye out on this Class A freshman quarterback for the next 4 years.
