Week 7 had me making the quick trip to central Wisconsin for the showdown between two very talented teams, Eau Claire Regis and Stanley-Boyd. This game had everything people love about football. First of all, the quality of talent from these two smaller schools is special. There are a lot of kids to know in the Class of 2024, 2025, and even 2026. I will cover many of them in the second half of this article. Before that, we have to talk about how this game played out!
If you love high flying offensive play and game breaking special teams highlights then the first quarter of this game was made precisely for you. It started with the Stanley- Boyd defense securing a safety when the Regis QB fumbled into his own endzone, recovering it for a safety. Seconds later, junior Stanley-Boyd WR Madden Mahr Madden Mahr 6'2" | 185 lbs | WR Stanley-Boyd | 2025 State WI returned the free kick all the way for a TD giving SB the very early 9-0 lead. On the very next play after that, Regis RB Chase Kostka broke through the defense for a 65 yard rushing TD to put the score at 9-7 halfway through the first quarter. Not to be outdone, Stanley-Boyd drove right down the field on their next possession. WR Rudy Kletsch took the jet sweep/dive up the middle and scored from 3 yards out. That put us at 16-8 entering the 2nd quarter.
The second quarter was for the people that love a defensive battle. That love watching teams force turnvoers, and punts, and completely shut down opposing offenses. The only points we saw in the second quarter were from stud RB/DB Evrett Tait Evrett Tait 6'0" | 200 lbs | DB Regis | 2025 State WI of Regis when he broke through for a 9 yard rushing TD to tie the game at 16. Outside of that we saw Stanley-Boyd force and recover a fumble, Regis forced and recovered a fumble of their own. Both teams also added multiple punts.
The second half was the start of a completely fresh game. The 16-16 tie essentially made it a 0-0 game. The Regis offense came out and continued to put up points, giving themselves their first lead less than two minutes into the half when senior Ian Andrews Ian Andrews 5'10" | 180 lbs | ATH Eau Claire Regis | 2024 State WI punched in the 4 yard TD. Stanley-Boyd wasn’t interested in letting the lead stay Regis’ for long. QB Carter Isenberger dropped back and found standout ’25 WR Madden Mahr Madden Mahr 6'2" | 185 lbs | WR Stanley-Boyd | 2025 State WI for the 21 yard TD on 4th down! The two point conversion gave them the 24-23 lead entering the 4th quarter.
The 4th quarter was owned and operated by the Regis Ramblers. Their run game took control of the game. Both owning the time of possession and moving up and down the field. The leader of the group, QB Owen Weisenberger Owen Weisenberger 6'0" | 165 lbs | QB Regis | 2025 State WI was the one responsible for the points too. He gave Regis the lead back early in the 4th with a dive up the middle from 3 yards out. Then with 5:10 to go he added another rushing TD from 4 yards out. That gave us our 38-24 final score. The Regis victory also put both teams at 5-2 records on the season. Based off what I saw, both of these teams have the talent to play much longer than the two remaining regular season games. If they can stay together they will give plenty of playoff teams a hard time. I’ll be following them closely, and maybe we will cross paths again in Madison.
Top Prospects of the Game
The top college prospect in this game was the standout junior from Regis. Evrett looks more and more the part of a high level college DB every time I watch him in person. He is now listed at 6’2″ 187 lbs, and the ’25 moves with it easily, naturally, and smoothly. I mentioned it on Twitter during the game, and it needs to be repeated. Evrett possesses all the explosive traits for the next level that you need in DBs. Quick feet and loose hips to run in man coverage. Excellent quick twitch, acceleration, and change of direction. All these traits also stood out on offense where Tait made multiple big plays at RB. The #1 DB in the Class of 2025 may need to be looked at more as an ATH.
Highlights
Ian is a hidden gem in the super deep Class of 2024. The 5’10” 180 lbs DB/RB has compiled years of varsity experience, culminating in this senior season where he represents and leads his team as a captain. The State Champ is another Regis athlete who stood out with his play on offense and defense. Ian has the most experience at DB, which is why I came away very impressed by his offensive work. The senior demonstrated strong ball carrier vision to find tiny seams to burst through. It was also good to see his natural elusiveness in tight quarters between the tackles. He was a slippery ball carrier. On defense, the senior plays in a lot of zone coverage that gives him the responsibility of covering a deep third of the field. This leads to him being put in a lot of one on one downfield battles. Andrews’ aggressiveness at the catch point to break up passes has long been a strength of his. He times his jumps well, and does a good job staying tight to his man downfield. Don’t sleep on the two way senior.
Highlights
An athlete who I was excited to see in person was the senior OL for Regis. Center Tyler Burhop Tyler Burhop 6’3″ | 270 lbs | OL Regis | 2024 State WI caught my attention over this summer. So I had to take this chance to watch him closely against a tough Stanley-Boyd front seven. Tyler used that solid frame and lower body power/explosiveness to get a good push out of his stance and also to be able to get himself in position when Regis attacked laterally. Burhop showed that he could win battles in power scenarios and zone play calls. He looks like a versatile athlete along the interior of the OL. Give him a look.
Brayden Albee
Brayden Albee
A senior steal that I highly recommend the D3 level checks out is LB/FB Brayden Albee. The 6′ 195 lbs LB repeatedly caught my eyes with his stout play in the middle of the Regis defense. He is strong, reads and reacts quickly, and fills his gap without hesitation. We saw a lot of plays come to quick ends because of the senior. Albee’s toughness in the middle of the Regis front seven made yards tough to come by between the tackles. Albee also brought that toughness, and power to the offensive side of the ball where he rotated in at FB and gained the tough yards running behind his shoulder pads. Don’t overlook the All State HM LB and varsity wrestler.
I really liked what I saw from the senior LB out of Stanley-Boyd. The senior was all over the field making hard hitting tackles. He has such natural instincts for the position, and has the athleticism to be able to capitalize on what he reads. What really stood out that I hadn’t noticed coming into this game was the body control, balance, and flexibility that Sturm has. Many times I saw him trip, get hit, or somehow end up in an awkward body position. However, that didn’t take him out of the play. The senior was able to always recover and get involved on the play. To go along with the athleticism was excellent power to take on OL, shed them away, and then make the tackle right at the line. Chase has a well rounded game that more need to take a look at.
Highlights
Stats:8 Receptions, 68 Yards, 1 TD, 1 Free Kick Return TDrnThis was the breakout player of the game. Madden looks like a kid who is going to see his recruitment take off over the next year. He has great size at 6’3″ 180 lbs with room to continue to fill out. The athleticism numbers match the play on the field. He has posted a 4.65 40, 38″ vertical, and a 23 mph top end speed. We saw the burst, and long speed over and over Friday night. Every time the junior touched the ball it felt like he could find the path to a big play. His TD reception came on a clutch 4th down catch downfield. Looking at his past tape, it matches a lot of what we saw last night. A receiver who tracks the ball very well downfield. He can adjust while in the air with his body control. The rising prospect also has the soft hands to maximize his catch radius. You don’t see many big targets that can win with size or athleticism equally. Madden can. Get him on your boards now if he isn’t already.
Storm Tiry
Storm Tiry
Another intriguing junior to get on your radars is the impressive DE Storm Tiry. Tiry checks in at a strong 6’4″ 225 lbs, and there is a lot more space to add muscle and overall size to. Storm first caught my eyes with his play behind the line. I noticed him making a lot of plays where he showed off the speed to chase down plays from behind. The more I focused on him the better it got. Storm also proved to be a stout edge defender against the run. He was able to stand up OTs and TEs right at the line, use his length and strong hands to shed the block and then make the tackle for little to no gain. The ceiling for Storm is very high. There are a lot of tools to work with, and a lot of time to mold them. Check this junior out. He looks the part of a college DE.
Landon Karlen
Landon Karlen
Stats: 20 Carries, 108 Yards, 3 Receptions, 18 YardsrnThe workhorse of the Stanley-Boyd offense this season is senior RB Landon Karlen. The yards were very difficult to find Friday night, and so were the clean running lanes. That led to Landon having to create a lot of his yards after contact. He was up to the challenge, though. Karlen runs behind his pads, and runs his feet until he is finally drug down. Behind the line, Karlen does show the vision to find lanes when they showed up, and he has enough speed to threaten a defense to the outside. Landon has put together a very productive senior season. Give him a look.
