I really liked what I saw from the senior LB out of Stanley-Boyd. The senior was all over the field making hard hitting tackles. He has such natural instincts for the position, and has the athleticism to be able to capitalize on what he reads. What really stood out that I hadn’t noticed coming into this game was the body control, balance, and flexibility that Sturm has. Many times I saw him trip, get hit, or somehow end up in an awkward body position. However, that didn’t take him out of the play. The senior was able to always recover and get involved on the play. To go along with the athleticism was excellent power to take on OL, shed them away, and then make the tackle right at the line. Chase has a well rounded game that more need to take a look at.

Stats: 3 Sacks, 2 FFsrnChase put together a solid camp season, and has carried that right into Week One. The MLB was all over the field thanks to his range, and his instincts for the position. He was quick to diagnose plays and move with the flow of the OL against the run game. Sturm was able to make a big impact against the pass game with his burst as a blitzer, and with the aforementioned range. Chase was also stout against the run, and was able to fight through blocks to make tackles. Sturm stood out from the crowd in Week One. Give his highlights a look.

Out of all the prospects I got to evaluate live at the Winona State prospect camp, I thought Stanley Boyd (WI) linebacker Chase Sturm had the highest fluidity rate amongst his early drills in testing if I had to grade the linebacker group from camp on Saturday. Chase showed off very catchy instincts to the ball from what I engaged with on Saturday, and that shows off bulks of consistency of what you will see on Chase’s junior tape as this young man has a blue-collar work ethic that brews with his physicality. I also liked watching Chase with his pad-level on Saturday, as he has solid technique with the reps I caught that just heavily sell this 6’0 210 pound linebacker for his main position fit at the next-level. With some development coming with his senior season with his stamina, look for this NW Wisconsin linebacker to be playing on Saturdays in the coming year or so.

. He has continued to fill out his frame since the 2022 season, and now looks the part of a next level LB. He played like it at the WSU camp as well. The 6′ 210 lbs LB vertical jumped 35″ and ran a 4.77 in one of his 40 attempts. When we got the pads on Chase again stood out. HIs shuffle, and change of direction in his shuffle had him looking the part of a next level ILB. He plays with good pad level, has quick feet, and has the speed and agility to run in coverage. Sturm finished his day strong showing just that in 1 on 1s. He was able to pick up RBs and TEs and run with them through route breaks or down the field. He also showed off good hand use to break up passes. Definitely a kid who will be a riser in the WI rankings.
