It was a hot day, but that didn’t stop many talented athletes from across the Midwest from coming out and putting on a show. Winona State gave the athletes many ways to standout too. The student athletes were able to go through a combine, agility drills, individual position work, and half padded one on ones. It was an awesome camp setup, and it brought the best out of the kids. Let’s start looking at how each athlete made a name for themselves.
Westin put together a very impressive day from start to finish. The Nebraska playmaker caught my eyes on multiple occasions. Westin has a strong, explosive 5’8″ 175 lbs frame. It was impressive to watch him in the agility drills portion of the workout. He burst out of every cut or change of direction thanks to a strong lower body. That lower body also gave him quick acceleration. The body control that Westin demonstrated further amplified his change of direction. He made those change of directions look easy and natural because of it. I went to his highlights and it was great to see a lot of what he showed on Sunday show up on the film. The acceleration, route running/COD, and also very reliable hands that maximized his catch radius. It was a great day for Westin.
Keiji Suggs
Keiji Suggs
The 6’3″ 170 lbs 2024 was another standout at WR. The most consistent standout trait from Keiji’s game was his body control and natural athleticism. He was smooth with his releases and cuts. He also looked natural in DB drills. Keiji showed off a smooth backpedal and fluid hips. The long, lean WR was a tough matchup in the one on one battles for DBs. He had one of the biggest catch radius in attendance. Then on top of it he was able to open up separation because of his body control and crisp route running. Suggs made multiple catches where he had to adjust to the ball in the air. His ability to track the ball is next level. Check out his tape below.
Josh first grabbed my attention when he jumped the highest vertical that I saw during the camp. He posted a 38.6″ jump, and then a 39.5″ jump. The Caledonia WR proved to be a very explosive athlete. In short area and agility drills Beardmore was arguably the best at accelerating out of each break or change of direction. The 6’1″ 170 lbs WR was hobbled a bit to end the day, so we weren’t able to see him in one on ones, but the 2024 definitely is an explosive, agile athlete to know in his Class.
A WI athlete who has impressed me with the work he has put in is the Stanley- Boyd LB Chase Sturm Chase Sturm 5’11” | 210 lbs | LB Stanley-Boyd | 2024 State WI . He has continued to fill out his frame since the 2022 season, and now looks the part of a next level LB. He played like it at the WSU camp as well. The 6′ 210 lbs LB vertical jumped 35″ and ran a 4.77 in one of his 40 attempts. When we got the pads on Chase again stood out. HIs shuffle, and change of direction in his shuffle had him looking the part of a next level ILB. He plays with good pad level, has quick feet, and has the speed and agility to run in coverage. Sturm finished his day strong showing just that in 1 on 1s. He was able to pick up RBs and TEs and run with them through route breaks or down the field. He also showed off good hand use to break up passes. Definitely a kid who will be a riser in the WI rankings.

Another LB standout was the Franklin HS product in WI. Teagan looks the part of a next level LB at 6’2″ 205 lbs. Fox’s fluidity and smooth athleticism helped him have a great day when we got to the positional and one on one portion of the day. He proved that he can move in every direction comfortably and efficiently. Teagan’s quick feet and body control also allowed him to look good running routes at TE. Once we got to one on ones Fox returned to LB and showed off the hips to quickly turn and run with RBs or TEs, especially in the short to intermediate levels. A WI 2024 to have on radars.

The 6′ 180 lbs ’24 is a versatile athlete who is having a great start to the camp season. Berg jumped 32″ in the vertical to start off the testing. He was at his best, though, when the pads came on. Jackson was asked to workout at DB and LB, and he excelled from both positions. At DB, Berg showed off the flexibility, loose hips, and quick feet in his backpedal. AT LB, Jackson stood out with his athleticism. He was able to quickly react to routes from RBs/TEs and stay right on their hip and break up passes. Jackson’s great day earned him an offer from Winona State when the camp concluded.

Another WI resident that showed out at the Winona State camp was Menomonie WR Charlie Behrend Charlie Behrend 6’1″ | 185 lbs | WR Menomonie | 2024 State WI . Charlie started the day off with a 30.7″ vertical jump. Where the 6’1″ 185 lbs athlete truly stood out was when the pads went on. Charlie had my best catch of the day in 1 on 1s. He was able to reach up and snag the pass with one hand without breaking stride. Charlie also caught my eyes with his quickness off the line. His releases made it hard for DBs to jam him. The receiver thrives when he can rely on his short area burst and agility over pure speed. He was able to consistently get open with his route running. He bumped his stock up in my eyes.

Owen Klug
Owen Klug
My final standout in today’s article is another Caledonia product. This time it is WR Owen Klug. The 6’3″ WR ran a 4.72 for one of his 40 attempts, and had a good day showing off that even though he is a bigger framed receiver he could still win with agility. Klug was smooth through his breaks,a nd his long limbs added separation from DBs at the catch point. Klug also demonstrated that he could win vertically down the field thanks to his speed and size combination. The Caledonia passing attack is one to follow this fall. They have multiple athletes at WR that have next level talent.
