Who Do We Have Here? Week 1 Edition

The best of the best stood out and balled out, and we also had several athletes launch themselves onto our radar with very impressive tape and/or production from Week 1. In doing so we have added these athletes to our growing list of student athelts we are going to be ranking when the season comes to a close. But we don't want to wait until then to talk about these guys. So let's dive into the tape and talent of the athletes who had us asking "Who do we have here?" after Week 1!</p>    <p class="text-gray-700">We start with a new QB on my radar. Kettle Moraine 2029 CJ Kostichka. The 6'2" 165 lbs sophomore finished Week 1 with a stat line of 18/31, 202 Yards, and 1 TD. As you see in the tweet with his highlights from the night, CJ was very clutch on third down with 11 of his 18 completions coming on the money down.</p>   <p>Watching through the tape, I get excited about the gifts that CJ has. He got passes off accurately while off platform. He was quick with his decisions and always took what the defense was giving him. The sophomore knew when to take his shots too, including the deep TD down the middle of the field. The 2029 QB is developing an arm that can get the ball to every level of the field and do it accurately. Union Grove is a tough first test, but CJ looked comfortable. I'm very excited to watch the 2029 develop over these next few years with the Lasers.</p>   <figure class="wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-x wp-block-embed-x"><div class="wp-block-embed__wrapper"> https://twitter.com/CJ_Stich2/status/2091573757634605135 </div></figure>     <p class="text-gray-700">Kettle Moraine came up short in Week 1, but they had a pair of 2029s make a name for themselves in the game. The 2nd being TE [player_tooltip player_id='2347086' first='Christian' last='Hogan']. The 6'3" 215 lbs sophomore has a strong frame that is developing quickly and allows him to play strong, flexible, and smooth. The 2029 led the team in receptions, finishing the night with 7 for 60 yards.</p>   <p>The H-back/TE gave his QB a reliable target in the quick passing game. The big man consistently used his size to create space and also did really well finding soft spots in coverage. Christian brings strong hands to the field and proved it by hanging onto several catches while also taking hits from defenders. Hogan has the size and tools to continue to develop into a game changing TE prospect over the next three years. The 6' 195 lbs junior comes to the Raccoons from Watertown where he did see varsity action. In Week 1 for Oconomowoc Karter finished with 3 tackles, 1 TFL, 1 sack, 1 FF, and 1 FR.</p>   <p>The first week of tape is a fun one for the 2028 is a fun watch. He instantly flashes his range as he flies into the backfield and chases down the QB. The versatile DB has clips playing within the box and stuffing the run as well as playing deep in coverage. Wherever the rising junior DB is lined up he seems to get involved in the play somehow. I've got Karter locked on our board at PRZ WI and I recommend others do as well.</p>   <figure class="wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-x wp-block-embed-x"><div class="wp-block-embed__wrapper"> https://twitter.com/Karterzimm/status/2092755774946623507 </div></figure>     <p class="text-gray-700">After almost two years, Anthony is back on a high school football field. Injuries took away his junior season, but he is back for his senior season and ready to contribute. In Week 1 he got things rolling with 2 receptions for 77 yards. That doesn't give us a ton of film, but the 6' 180 lbs senior was able to flash some big play abilities on his long catch and run. I'm excited to watch Anthony continue to grow his impact week over week as he gets comfortable being back on the field on Friday nights. Coaches, don't let him slip under the radar on you.</p>      <p class="text-gray-700">Oregon got off to a hot start in Week 1 with a 53-8 win over Stoughton. The dominant defensive performance was obviously a big reason behind that final score. A defense led by senior LB [player_tooltip player_id='2347812' first='Kody' last='Brekke'] who finished with 8 tackles and 2 QB pressures while playing just over one half of the game.</p>   <p>The senior LB is a steal in the making. The 6' 205 lbs senior LB has a 40" vertical, .92 flying 10, and a 3.97 GPA to round out the full student athlete package. The explosive athletic traits jump off the screen in his Week 1 tape. Kody is so quick to close on the ball and is very sudden and agile while working through traffic to get to the ball. His range from the off ball OLB position fits perfectly into the position. This is a senior defender to keep a very close eye on the rest of the season. He has next level traits and tools.</p>   <figure class="wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-x wp-block-embed-x"><div class="wp-block-embed__wrapper"> https://twitter.com/KodyBrekke/status/2091967636280111263 </div></figure>     <p class="text-gray-700">Green Bay Treble is coming off a big Week 1 win over West Bend West on the back of an elite offensive outpouring. One of the key contributors to the night was senior WR/DB [player_tooltip player_id='2347823' first='Kaden' last='Morales']. The 5'9" 160 lbs senior finished with 3 receptions, 60 yards, 2 TDs, and 4 tackles on defense.</p>   <p>I had to head to the film to figure out who it was that was helping Preble put up those big numbers and one of the key pieces was Kaden. On defense the senior is utilized as a single high safety in a lot of his highlights. A situation where he is able to show off his range and football IQ to quickly diagnose plays. We also get some great looks at his closing speed and open field tackling. On offense we saw Kaden score both of his TDs leaning on his vertical speed. His top gear was too much for the WBW secondary and allowed him to easily be open downfield. The senior was also involved as a blocker from the slot. Check him out more in his highlights below.</p>
