I went through the Illinois Prospect Database on the PRZ IL website to look at all the freshmen QBs with accounts on the site. From there I went through the film to see who has highlights to break down. Today’s article is the top o the group based on the film I found. Let’s meet the next wave of QBs to know across IL. Let’s get started!
There is lot of raw upside in the 6’3″ 180 lbs freshman QB. The big bodied QB is an imposing runner when he decides to tuck it away and run. He won’t hesitate to lower the shoulder and punish defenders in his path. The true potential resides in his right arm. Matthew has natural arm strength to attack deep down the field, and he has the aggressive mindset on tape to use it. I was impressed to see him also use good touch and accuracy on those deep passes. He has control over the ball, and doesn’t just send it downfield. The tools are there to be molded over the next 4 years. Brady also plays OLB on defense.

The freshman signal caller has earned the starting varsity job at Althoff Catholic HS. That had me very excited to dive into the weekly highlight videos. My firs takeaway is how athletically gifted Jayden is. He is very light on his feet, and that allows him the ability to move in the pocket, reset his feet quickly, and get the ball out of his hand. He can also deliver passes on the run or while making those moves in the pocket. Ellington wins with accuracy and touch. Especially deeper down the field where he can drop the ball in a bucket over his receiver’s shoulder where only his man can get it. His ball placement is a major strength. Check out his highlights.

Jameson looks like he will be pushing to be one of the best QBs in the Class of 2027. I was very quickly impressed by how technically sound the freshman is on tape. His feet and eyes are always connected. He keeps a solid base and on the balls of his feet. The ball gets out of his hand quickly with his fast release. Purcell is able to throw from any platform or arm angle without losing much velocity. Most importantly, his accuracy is strong and reliable whether in the pocket or scrambling. Get this kid high on your radars.

The athlete who looks like QB1 in this Class is Trae Taylor Trae Taylor 6’2″ | 175 lbs | QB Carmel Catholic (mundelien) | 2027 IL . He already holds a plethora of FBS offers and has his team off to a 4-0 start while throwing for over 1,000 yards, and 18 TDs. Trae’s arm talent is special. He can catch and get rid of it in an instant. He has the strength to hit the deep out routes or closing windows. Trae picks defenses apart with great awareness and a high football IQ. Even while on the run Taylor stays poised, eyes downfield, and finds his man. The freshman goes through progressions like a seasoned veteran, and of course the accuracy is there. He is completing 81% of his passes on the year despite aggressively attacking downfield and tight windows. The film is so fun to watch.
