Today’s update features a pair of offensive linemen teammates from one team in Hudson County, a defensive end who combines athletics with academics, one of the best athletes in the state’s 2024 class, and two Essex County teammates from different classes. See below where these young men are continuing their academic and athletic careers below.
The first of two Saint Peter’s Marauders offensive lineman to come off the board was Lizama. Projecting as an interior lineman Lizama is every bit of 6’3″ and 290lbs. In the last month the senior received Division I offers from Delaware State and Merrimack. That said, Lizama decided to commit to playing for the Warriors of Merrimack. This is a solid get, as Lizama aims to be an anchor along their offensive line for the next several years.
Wherever he goes, Coach Rob Hinson manages to put young men in position to achieve their dreams. His current tenure at Camden High School follows suit. His most recent breakthrough talent is Seay, a 6’5″ 235lb TE and DE. After an outstanding junior season with strong film and a grueling offseason in his rearview mirror, the talented Panther rewarding himself with gaining clarity for his future. An academic standout as well, Seay held offers from schools like Cornell, Howard, Monmouth, New Hampshire, Lafayette, Maine, Columbia, Lehigh, Dartmouth, Kent State, and Pitt; however, the book-smart athlete settled on accepting an offer from UPenn. Perhaps the school with the best blend of academics and athletics who offered him, this is an outstanding choice for Seay.
LaFond is the second prospect from Saint Peter’s Prep offensive line unit to commit this week. Likely an offensive tackle, he stands at 6’7″ while weighing 290lbs. Akin to his teammate Lizama, LaFond held a bevy of offers including those from Princeton, New Hampshire, Columbia, Marshall, Monmouth, Merrimack, Stony Brook, and Bucknell. Above all else it appears that the big man had his eyes set on the Big Apple all along, as LaFond announced that he will be taking the 1 train to the Bronx to play for Fordham after graduating in 2024.
Highlights
A prospect from the class of 2023 that I initially missed, Desir announced his commitment early last month. The dynamic athlete and playmaker for the Irvington Blue Knights is leaving Jersey. As he drives to his destination, he might be singing to the tune of:
“Country roads, take me home… to the place I belong…. West Virginia, mountain mama… take me home, country roads.”
That said, Desir announced that he will be heading to Philippi to the campus of Alderson Broaddus Univeristy as he continues his career playing for the Battlers.
Willis, a he-can-do-anything-on-the-football-field type player for Saint Joseph’s Regional in Montvale, is Prep Redzone’s #1 running back from New Jersey’s class of 2024. At 6 feet tall and a chiseled 225lbs, the consensus 4 star recruit has college-ready athleticism to step on the field and impact the game immediately. With an abundance offers far and wide all across the country – from Alabama, Nebraska, and Syracuse, to Rutgers, Boston College, and Maryland – Willis has decided to take his game to the ACC and commit to the Pitt Panthers.
Shiggs is a fast, quick, and nimble defensive back out of Irvington. With an early commitment, Shiggs can sit back, relax and just be the baller that he is. Within the last week he announced on Twitter that he will be heading up to North Kingstown to play ball for the University of Rhode Island. He hopes to be an immediate contributor and a stalwart in the Rams defensive secondary for years to come.
