It was an amazing event as 16 quarterbacks competed for awards in: accuracy, anticipation, IQ and the overall championship. Checkout these 6 quarterbacks that stood out from the rest of the group
Overall Champion
Mustafa Mozwalla
Mustafa Mozwalla
The Syosset native made a statement during the Long Island Quarterback Challenge as he brought home the title. Mozwalla was consistently one of the top QB’s in each drill. Mozwalla showed off his incredible arm during the events that challenged his arm strength. In the touch drill, the Braves quarterback put together a perfect round as he was one of the smoothest QB’s out there. He also did well in the cover 2 hole shot drill. His footwork in the 3 step hitch was fantastic and he hit his receivers in stride down the far sideline. Mozwalla displayed terrific timing and consistency which landed him the championship crown.
Accuracy Champion and 2nd Place Overall
One of the favorites in this contest lived up to the hype. Stahl won the accuracy award for the second straight year. He was zipping the ball into tight windows and the chemistry with his receivers Jack Melore Jack Melore 6’1″ | 185 lbs | WR Smithtown West | 2024 State NY and Nick Briffa was amazing. Stahl ended up finishing second overall in the competition as he was right there in the running for the title. He was phenomenal in the mobility drill and the anticipation drill. Stahl also was very accurate in the cover 2 hole drill and he had low trajectory in his throws which was a main point in this drill. His ball placement was second to none at this challenge and its safe to say he’s gonna be completing a lot of passes this season.
3rd Place Overall
Last year’s champion put together a solid all around performance that landed him third place overall in this year’s challenge. Weiss has prototypical height and is a smart QB. He had a strong start in the “grip it and rip it” drill. Weiss showed quickness, explosiveness and amazing accuracy. In the touch drill, he zipped the ball right over the goal post each time and placed it perfectly to his receiver. In the mobility drill, Weiss might’ve had the best rep out of the group when rolling to the left side. He was moving quick, didn’t go down hill and placed the pass in a good spot with some heat on it.
Anticipation Champion
Filardi brought home the anticipation championship from this event. His footwork was incredible and it was nothing but precision from Filardi in multiple drills. In the mobility drill, he stood flat and was one of the faster quarterbacks, he completed both of those throws with ease. The second drill of the day tested anticipation and Filardi had a smooth 3 step drop and threw bullets that were perfectly on time to his receivers. He did a great job placing the ball throughout the event and she showed why he’s one of the top 2025 quarterbacks on Long Island.
Highlights
Football IQ Champion
The Westhampton Beach quarterback did amazing in the classroom portion of this challenge. All the quarterbacks tested their knowledge in a test and Gambino scored the highest. I immediately had Gambino as one of the favorites for this award. The soon to be four year starter for the Hurricanes has always shown maturity and is an amazing decision maker. Gambino also did well in this QB challenge despite not finding in the top 3. He was in the running for one of the most accurate QB’s.
Arm Strength
There wasn’t an official award for arm strength, but when they had the QB’s test their distance, nobody threw the rock further than Kaeden West Kaeden West 6’1″ | 160 lbs | QB Comsewogue | 2024 State NY . His longest attempt was 66 yards, as West possesses a true cannon of an arm. West also looked real good in the “Hot Potato” drill. That portion of the challenge tested quick release and West got rid of the ball very fast and efficiently. He started off a little slow in the first 2 challenges but he bounced back big time throughout the contest. He might’ve not finished in the top 3 but he wasn’t far behind.
