IOWA CITY, Iowa – We’ve reached July. A new high school football season is right around the corner. It will be here before we know it.
To help get us prepared, we’re listing seven top players returning at each position in all seven classes. You can read about the positions we’ve covered at the links above.
We’ve reached the O-Line. Next up is Class 2A:
Parker Thomas, ’24, Sheldon – Thomas (6-4, 285) reports scholarship offers from Army, Northern Iowa and Wayne State. Iowa State and Kansas State are among other schools showing interest. There’s a lot to like when watching Thomas’ junior highlights. Reliability and versatility stand out. He lines up at the three different interior O-Line spots during the first three clips. He looks solid in run game and pass protection, aided by good mobility. He plays with physicality and through the whistle.
Dreu Kolbeck Dreu Kolbeck 6'5" | 280 lbs | OL Sheldon | 2025 State IA , ’24, Sheldon – Another big dude on the Orabs’ offensive line, Kolbeck (6-5, 285), like Thomas, won’t get lost in a crowd. Kolbeck reports scholarships from Division II programs and interest from D-I schools. His junior highlights provide evidence that it could be dangerous crossing his path. His physical style of play jumps off the video. I also like how he operates in space, showing fast feet and agility.
Trevor Dieren, ’24, Central Lyon/George-Little Rock – Dieren (6-3, 240) was the lone non-senior among the five offensive linemen on the IPSWA all-state first-team in ’22. He’s received plenty of interest from colleges, including North Dakota State, where he attended a junior day in the spring. The starting left tackle on the state champion Lions, Dieren’s junior highlights entertain and impress. He dominates from a physical standpoint with sound technique also present.
Evan Beck, ’24, Spirit Lake – The IPSWA picked Beck (6-3 250) for its second-team all-state squad last fall. You can see why while viewing his junior highlights. He handles the center responsibilities seamlessly, firing off the snap after delivering the ball comfortably to his quarterback. He plays hard, fast and with an edge. He often picks up multiple blocks on a given play. He reports scholarship offers from D-II and NAIA schools, and is hearing from D-I programs.
Mark Bussan, ’24, PCM – Bussan (6-7, 280) joined Beck on the IPSWA all-state second-team in ’22. He’s athletic and agile enough to work in the basketball team’s rotation. During his short highlight reel, that tracks as you witness a really big guy blocking fluidly on the move. He also can power through initial contact at the line of scrimmage.
Noah Cornell, ’24, Greene County – The third junior on the IPSWA’s all-state second-team, Cornell (5-11, 205) helped the Rams reach the second round of last season’s playoffs. He was named Greene County’s offensive lineman of the year in ’22. Unfortunately, his Hudl page does not include film for review.
Nolan Baker, ’24, Central Lyon/George-Little Rock – Another member of this list from last year’s state champion Lion team, Baker (6-3, 260) is receiving plenty of interest from colleges. His junior highlights contain impressive clips of him operating from the interior of the offensive line. The power stands out, and he sets it up with good footwork and hand placement. He gets out well when pulling and stays balanced.
