IOWA CITY, Iowa – We’ve reached July. A new high school football season is right around the corner. It will be here before we know it.
To help get us prepared, we’re listing seven top players returning at each position in all seven classes. You can read about the quarterbacks, running backs and receivers at the links above.
We’re continuing on at tight end. Next up is Class A:
Dalton Clasen, ’24, Bellevue – The video is limited on Clasen’s Hudl page. What is viewable shows the 6-foot-2, 180-pounder standing out on both sides of the ball. He appears a smooth route runner with speed and good hands. He caught 40 passes for 553 yards and 5 touchdowns last season. He completed 3 of 6 passes, including one for a score. On defense, he registered 21 solo tackles, 6.0 stops for loss and 2.0 sacks.
Tiernan Vokes Tiernan Vokes 6'4" | 210 lbs | TE Grundy Center | 2025 State IA , ’25, Grundy Center – Vokes (6-4, 200) shows off his strong receiving skills during the first clip of his sophomore highlights. He runs a crisp slant route, catches a pass across the middle and houses it by beating defenders. The second clip reveals a solid block in the running game. Vokes hauled in 26 balls for 461 yards (17.7 YPR) and 10 touchdowns last year. He added 19.0 tackles (11 solo, 1.5 for loss) and a sack on defense.
Jake Leonard Jake Leonard 6'3" | 215 lbs | TE Madrid | 2024 State IA , ’24, Madrid – The 6-foot-3, 200-pound Leonard caught 16 passes for 211 yards and two touchdown as a junior last fall. On defense, he recorded 22.0 tackles (17 solo, 5.5 for loss) and a sack. His 11th-grade highlights kick off with an impressive run-after-catch clip that shows him plowing over a would-be tackler and rumbling downfield for a big gain. He hands out a punishing block in Clip 3. He runs crisp routes and looks to have reliable hands.
Brandon McCall, ’24, St. Albert – McCall (5-11, 195) has various single-game videos on his Hudl page. In the first clip in a contest against Riverside, he runs a nice route, hauls in a contested passes and runs to the house from 62 yards out. The second clip shows him coming off the edge and producing a tackle for loss. He added an 18-yard catch to his TD grab. The Falcons’ statistics page on Bound does not included player tackles.
Hunter Hillman, ’24, St. Ansgar – Hillman (6-4, 170) only includes basketball highlights on his Hudl page. You can see the athleticism when watching some of those clips. Hopefully we can see how it looks on the gridiron in the future. He caught four passes for 87 yards and a touchdown in ’22.
Ayden Havel, ’25, Highland – Interestingly, Havel sophomore highlights on his Hudl page show him playing soccer. Hey, it’s football in other countries. Hopefully he adds from American football to his profile. It would be nice to see how he caught seven passes for 114 yards and a touchdown last season as a 10th-grader.
Braedon Godfread, ’25, Sydney – Godfread (6-2, 175) led the Cowboys in catches (12), receiving yards (200) and touchdown grabs (3) as a sophomore in ’22. He added 46 rushing yards. He racked up 31.5 tackles (21 solo, 1.0 for loss) with a sack and an interception. He does not have video highlights posted on his Hudl page.
