Vokes didn’t have a lot of plays where he stretched the field vertically. His role was catching a lot of short routes and screens, and using his size and athleticism to power ahead to rack up yards after the catch. Vokes has now surpassed over 1000 total receiving yards and 16 receiving touchdowns across the season. Vokes should remain as the most effective target in the Spartans’ passing game heading into the state title game.

Vokes simply dominated on the outside in 1-on-1 matchups, as his size has made him a mismatch against CBs all season. That size allowed him to win on jump-balls, and he was able to drag his coverage defenders for extra yardage after the catch. The Spartans have utilized Vokes so well, and the connection between Vokes and Jirovsky could very much lead the Spartans to a third straight state title.

Vokes’ remained as sharp as ever, proving difficult to tackle and boasts impressive speed to break into the open field, but we got to see more of Vokes in his natural TE role on Friday night, and he proved to play well as a blocker at the end of the line. As Vokes continues to shine for the Spartans, the attention now turns to finishing his senior campaign with a 3rd-straight state championship title to add to his already impressive resume.

Against Pella Christian in week 3, he finished with 6 catches for 124 yards and 3 touchdowns. Vokes’ length makes him a superb goal-line threat, and he uses his length and nimble feet to make catches on the sideline, as well as making big plays down the field. Grundy Center will remain a top contender this season in Class 1A with Vokes in the lineup.
