IOWA CITY, Iowa – We’ve reached July. A new high school football season is right around the corner. It will be here before we know it.
To help get us prepared, we’re listing seven top players returning at each position in all seven classes. You can read about the positions we’ve covered at the links above.
We’ve reached the O-Line. Next up is Class 4A:
Caden Hotz, ’24, Waverly-Shell Rock – Hotz (6-2, 265) helped the Go-Hawks finish 10-1 last season and was the only junior on the ’22 IPSWA 4A all-state first-team. He reports scholarship offers from South Dakota State and quite a few others. His junior highlights show us a lineman with a lot of power and strength. He also moves well and looks smooth when doing so, allowing him to reach blocks when pulling. He excels in run blocking and looks solid in pass-pro.
Garret Rutledge, ’24, Lewis Central – At 6-foot-6, 280 pounds, there’s no missing Rutledge. He stands out even more when watching his junior highlights. He overwhelms opponents with his size and strength. He’s light on his feet for a big guy and uses his hands well. Rutledge reports scholarship offers from Army, Fordham, North Dakota State, South Dakota State, Northern Iowa and others. He’s visited Kansas (twice), Iowa State, Kansas State and Northern Illinois.
Parker Getter, ’24, Glenwood – Getter (6-6, 295) is another nimble big guy. Army saw the potential as he’s reported a scholarship offer from the Cadets this spring. He holds offers from plenty of small schools, and has visited Kansas State, Iowa State and Nebraska along with West Point. His junior highlights feature a lineman effective in run and pass blocking because of his combination of size, strength, agility and technique.
Jace Borcherding Jace Borcherding 6'4" | 250 lbs | OL Cedar Rapids Xavier | 2024 State IA , ’24, Xavier – The 6-foot-4, 255-pound Borcherding played a large role in the Saints winning a state championship in ’22, earning the program’s O-Line MVP award. You can see his consistency in playing through the whistle when watching his junior highlights. He looks very athletic and does a nice job getting under the pads of defenders after a quick get-off at snap. He’s reported a scholarship offer from Lindenwood, has visited Kansas State and UNI, and camped at Iowa, Purdue and Northwestern.
Noah Winger Noah Winger 6'2" | 275 lbs | OL Bondurant-Farrar | 2024 State IA , ’24, Bondurant-Farrar – The Blue Jays posted a 8-2 record last season with Winger (6-2, 270) being a big reason for that success. He’s reporting quite a few opportunities from smaller schools at the next level. Also a strong wrestler, Winger carries assets in that sport over to the gridiron. He plays with good leverage and utilizes his strength, as you can see on his junior highlights. Setup and execution appear solid, and he plows through opponents with an ability to reach blocks across the line in run game.
Lucas Thompson, ’24, Boone – Thompson (6-0, 250) sticks out during junior season clips posted on Hudl. In a play against Webster City, he fires off the ball and pancakes his opponent. You can see similar power in a set of clips from the Nevada contest. He represents himself well in pass pro by getting his hands into the opponent’s chest. Smaller in-state schools are showing interest in him.
Vinnie Keller Vinnie Keller 6'0" | 270 lbs | OL Clear Creek Amana | 2025 IA , ’24, Clear Creek Amana – I’m disappointed that Keller (6-0, 271) does’t have any video posted on his Hudl page. I’d like to refresh my memory from what I saw last season in Tiffin when the Clippers played host to Liberty High. It was a tough night for the home team, but he and Brody Clubb Brody Clubb 6'3" | 245 lbs | DL Clear Creek-Amana | 2025 State IA stood out in defeat. Keller announced camps invitations from Yale, Illinois State and North Dakota State this spring.
