We have been preaching how talented the Class of 2024 in WI is on Prep Redzone WI and Twitter. With so much talent for coaches to get to know it is impossible for a few athletes to slip through the cracks. That is what we are here for though. To shine the spotlight on those overlooked athletes, and that is what this article is all about. The athletes that have slipped under the radar, but without question have the talent to play college ball at some level. Let’s dive into this group of steals!
Jonah may be better viewed as an ATH instead of a pure RB. The 6’3″ 200 lbs prospect has the size and physicality for the RB or LB positions. Jonah doesn’t shy away from contact, and on some plays it looks like he chooses contact. That is why I believe he can play LB at the next level as well. He has the stoutness and strength to be a sound tackler and run stuffer. He has a long frame that could be utilized off the edge too. At RB, Severson sees the field very well. He doesn’t have the game breaking speed, instead he is able to find blocks and set up tacklers. There is a role for Jonah at the next level. I’m excited to see who the first coaching staff will be that sees it.
Karter has been a favorite of Prep Redzone WI since his freshman season. The 5’10” 215 lbs RB has been a contributor on varsity for years, culminating in a dominant junior season that should get him more attention from the next level. Karter has that bowling ball type build, and he matches his play style to it perfectly. His low center of gravity makes it nearly impossible to arm tackle him. He runs his feet through contact and is able to break through many tackles. His reported 4.62 speed gives him the ability to get outside and turn seams of green grass into big platys. Karter also possesses strong instincts and vision that allow him to play at full speed, even between the tackles. The team that lands Karter is getting an impact player. Check out the film of the All State RB/LB.
Highlights
Another hidden gem coming out of WI is the 6’2″ 330 lbs DT from Wauwatosa West. Alex is massive in the middle of the Tosa West DL. He has proven to be very stout against the run. He is able to hold the line of scrimmage with strength. Rack isn’t just a big body either. He has shown that he has enough range to pursuit and make tackles between the tackles. It is also impressive watching him consistently use his hands to create separation, turn his shoulders, and get skinny to beat the OL in the trenches. The big man has a little spring out of his stance as well. Both sides of the trenches are deep in WI, but don’t overlook the potential impact that Alex could have for a D2/D3 program.
We have been a big fan of Chase’s since watching him in person at the end of his freshman year. The 6′ 215 lbs RB/LB is a powerful athlete that definitely has the traits to play at the next level. At RB, Chase is very fun to watch. He has a big frame, yet still maintains a low center of gravity and the contact balance to be able to lower his shoulder and run over LBs/DBs. His speed jumps out from the crowd as he pulls away in the open field. His vision and feel for the position are very strong as well. He makes quick decisions, and has the feet to be able to juke or jump cut away from defenders. Lastly, Matthias has natural hands and can be a reliable target out of the backfield.
Chase has just as natural instincts for the LB psoition as well. Insintcts that help him easily move through the front seven and close on the RB in the hole. He is a hard hittin tackler, and is reliable in coveage with his excellent speed/range for the position. With his recent publishing of his junior heighlights, Chase is set to jump way up in the rankings from the Watch List. Check out his tape below.
Teams that utilize the fullback position need to take a look at the Westby ’24. Rhett checks in at 6’1 205 lbs, and he uses that big frame to be a nightmare for the defense. Any time Rhett has the ball he forces the defense to gang tackle him. His power jumps off the tape compared to those around him. He runs very hard, and behind his shoulder pads. His highlights show wakes of attempted tackles behind his as he continues to run his feet. Rhett also has shown he can be used as a receiver out of the backfield. He has enough speed to be a mismatch for LBs at the HS level, and his physical running style is a nightmare for DBs to try and stop. Give the kid a look. He might be the most under the radar prospect in this article.
Here is an intriguing prospect who could become a massive steal for a college program. Matthew has a long frame at 6’6″ 220 lbs. He has experience at DE, but in 2022 the ’24 played most of his time at LT. While doesn’t have the weight on his frame for that position now, Malvitz has plenty of room to fill out and meet the standards for OT or DE. Watching through the tape, Matthew does a solid job with technique. He plays with solid knee and ankle bend. He keeps a wide base, and uses quick feet to get him in position against the DL. Malvitz also consistently uses his hands to initiate contact and clamp on. A team that is willing to put in the resources to fill out his frame could get a big time impact player.
