Top Offensive Linemen from the PSR Big Showcase
Leiggi, the New York Military Academy prospect, was an impressive figure at the Big Showcase. He might have been the tallest and biggest, burliest attendee. How big you ask? Some might consider him the size of a tank. This immediately made him a difficult task to bull rush and slant against, as he could absorb the force without flinching and also took up so much space without trying. Leiggi has long arms to boot, which aids him in keeping opponents at bay. What else opened by eyes about this prospect was how well he moved his feet. For a young man of his stature, I typically expect poor feet; however, given his size Leiggi moves his feet surprising well when closing space.
Highlights
Torres may not have been the biggest lineman in attendance, however he might have been one of the most technically sound. What caught my eye about Torres was the sets he takes in pass protection. He did an outstanding job of never leaving the ground, being faithful to his technique in his drag foot when he kick stepped. Carrying this over to one-on-ones, this enabled him to never be off balance and avoided him getting totally worked by a lower defender.
For as big as he is, Fallon took reps both on the interior and edge of the offensive line. Without having seen his tape, I suspect this might have been to show the college coaches in attendance his ability to play anywhere on the offensive line. What I appreciated about Fallon’s game the most is that he does something I actually coach my offensive linemen to do. Because in pass protection you are typically conceding ground, at some point you are able to turn your pass block into a drive block and move the defender out of the frame. Fallon demonstrated a strong sense of when to make this adjustment and continued to do it, allowing him to easily win his matchups.
Highlights
Crawford, one of the most physically gifted offensive linemen in the state, reminded his fellow linemen exactly why he garners up so much media buzz. Crawford was absolutely great with his hands. Whether it was hand placement, punch-and-recoil, and keeping defenders away, Crawford realizes that he is blessed with extremely long arms and uses them to his advantage. Another massive prospect, Crawford understands how to use his size to quickly take the air out of gaps when a stunt is pulled off.
Yesterday I mentioned how much I enjoy when I watch a prospect’s tape and then get to see them in person – Platt also brought me that joy during the PSR Big Showcase. What I saw in person only adds to my previous evaluation on Platt. First thing I observed was how Platt has no quit in him. He never gives up on a play and competes to the whistle. He possesses great balance and a square stance, allowing him to be positioned to handle any type of rush thrown at him. Platt also took great pass protection sets, which had him victorious during numerous matchups throughout the afternoon.
