20 of some of the best programs in Southern California and a program in Washington will gather at Edison High School Saturday for one of the most prestigious passing tournaments of the summer.

Mission Viejo won the event last season by beating St. John Bosco in the championship game.

Here is a look at the teams in Pool C and Pool D of the Battle at the Beach tournament.

POOL C

MATER DEI

Mater Dei finished in second place at the USC passing tournament last weekend and played without some top players: receivers [player_tooltip player_id='115472' first='Jack' last='Ressler'], [player_tooltip player_id='683685' first='Marcus' last='Brown'] and [player_tooltip player_id='282711' first='Marcus' last='Harris'] and defensive back [player_tooltip player_id='147715' first='Zabien' last='Brown']. Mater Dei dominated Los Alamitos despite the limited personnel and lost to Warren in the finals. Stanford commit [player_tooltip player_id='683642' first='Elijah' last='Brown'] was great at the event in 2021 as a sophomore. [player_tooltip player_id='282700' first='Daryus' last='Dixson'], [player_tooltip player_id='282734' first='Chuck' last='McDonald III'] and [player_tooltip player_id='401232' first='Cory' last='Lavender'] are excellent young defensive backs. If Mater Dei is limited at receiver personnel wise, expect to see some young faces like [player_tooltip player_id='401273' first='Kayden' last='Dixon-Wyatt'], [player_tooltip player_id='283630' first='Jonah' last='Smith'] and [player_tooltip player_id='292489' first='JuJu' last='Parm'] to get some run. Keep an eye out for running backs [player_tooltip player_id='273546' first='Nate' last='Frazier'], [player_tooltip player_id='282698' first='Jordon' last='Davison'] and [player_tooltip player_id='115462' first='Ajon' last='Bryant'] in the passing game as well.

https://twitter.com/MaxPreps/status/1673710512230612992?s=20

LIBERTY (BAKERSFIELD)

Liberty made a State Championship game last season and lost its three top players from that team, but they have some solid players returning. Quarterback [player_tooltip player_id='683635' first='Cole' last='O'Brien'] is back and has an offer from Minot State. [player_tooltip player_id='683675' first='TreJon' last='Fulton'] is a receiver with plenty of offers including Boise State and San Jose State. Tight end [player_tooltip player_id='195572' first='Jace' last='Nixon'] is 6-foot-5 with an offer from Fresno State. [player_tooltip player_id='273680' first='Drew' last='Underwood'] leads the defense after having 98 tackles last season.

https://twitter.com/Tre_2tru/status/1672694279657910272?s=20

WARREN

Warren beat Mater Dei for the championship of the USC tournament last weekend. [player_tooltip player_id='282717' first='Madden' last='Iamaleava'] is the junior quarterback for Warren and he has offers from most of the big schools. [player_tooltip player_id='147762' first='Jordan' last='Ross'] is an outstanding two-way player for Warren and will announce his top 10 schools on Friday. Sophomore [player_tooltip player_id='780272' first='Jalen' last='Ross'] has offers from Colorado State and San Jose State. Defensive back [player_tooltip player_id='195545' first='Jordan' last='Jones'] recently committed to UC Davis.

https://twitter.com/latsondheimer/status/1672731925155581952?s=20

CORONA DEL MAR

Corona del Mar lost its long time head coach but most of the rest of the staff is back leading the Sea Kings. One of my favorite senior quarterbacks in Orange County is [player_tooltip player_id='929542' first='Kaleb' last='Annett'] who got some meaningful reps last season along with former quarterback David Rasor who is now at UC Davis. Russell Weir should be the primary target for Annett and junior tight end [player_tooltip player_id='347158' first='Zach' last='Giuliano'] has offers from Utah and Cal among others. Christian Brooks is one of the better senior linebackers in the county and leads the defense.

https://twitter.com/RussellWeir_/status/1667889285641703424?s=20

ALEMANY

There have been plenty of reports about some players leaving Alemany recently but they still have some talent on campus. [player_tooltip player_id='401302' first='Xavier' last='Owens'] is a talented sophomore who recently got an offer from Washington along with his classmate [player_tooltip player_id='780318' first='Allen' last='Blaylock']. [player_tooltip player_id='282688' first='Phillip' last='Bell'] was an elite receiver for Christian Brothers of Sacramento last season and is now at Alemany. The question for Alemany entering Saturday is who the quarterback will be. There are reports that [player_tooltip player_id='273557' first='Damon' last='Wrighster'] has transferred to Inglewood but they are not confirmed.

POOL B

LOS ALAMITOS

Los Alamitos has a lot of roster turnover but they have added so much talent at the skill positions that it may not have a negative impact. [player_tooltip player_id='282704' first='Alonzo' last='Esparza'] is the new quarterback for the Griffins after spending last season at Sierra Canyon. The Griffins added Orange transfers [player_tooltip player_id='115424' first='Kobe' last='Boykin'] and [player_tooltip player_id='149316' first='Jett' last='White']. They also added [player_tooltip player_id='282763' first='Joshua' last='Tuchek'] from Santa Margarita. Tight end [player_tooltip player_id='723681' first='Davon' last='Mitchell'] may be one of the more physically imposing players in the county. [player_tooltip player_id='406707' first='Anthony' last='League'] is another Los Alamitos player that I am very high on.

https://twitter.com/LosAlFootball/status/1672783939805802498?s=20

SANTA MARGARITA

Santa Margarita lost a lot of players to graduation and transfer but we are starting to get a clearer look at the Eagle's roster for 2023. James Johnson, a transfer from Servite, will get the majority of reps at quarterback for the Eagles Saturday. He has very good targets to throw to in [player_tooltip player_id='115420' first='Emmett' last='Mosley'], [player_tooltip player_id='976922' first='Sean' last='Embree'] and [player_tooltip player_id='283690' first='Trent' last='Mosley']. [player_tooltip player_id='195536' first='Kyle' last='Brody'] is a talented tight end who may see more targets this season. Noah Sulick is a tackling machine and leads the defense.

https://twitter.com/EmmettMosley6/status/1671579672776441856?s=20

RANCHO CUCAMONGA

Rancho Cucamonga may have a quarterback competition on its hands between Norco transfer [player_tooltip player_id='943018' first='Tyler' last='Dudden'] and sophomore Jordan Chambers. They have a pair of top receivers to throw to in [player_tooltip player_id='398454' first='Jason' last='Harris'] and [player_tooltip player_id='273600' first='Jonah' last='Dawson']. Duke commit [player_tooltip player_id='115427' first='Kyren' last='Condoll'] leads the secondary and [player_tooltip player_id='942353' first='Elyjah' last='Gordon'] is a lengthy junior who recently got an offer from USC. [player_tooltip player_id='195520' first='Stacy' last='Bey'] is also a talented athlete headed to San Diego State. Rancho Cucamonga is loaded with talent and I am interested to see the quarterbacks on Saturday.

https://twitter.com/RCHSCougarsFB/status/1673135659463344129?s=20

CATHEDRAL CATHOLIC (SAN DIEGO)

Cathedral Catholic is a top 5 program in San Diego. [player_tooltip player_id='398444' first='Jack' last='Stevens'] is the returning quarterback for the Dons with an offer from UNLV. Defensive back [player_tooltip player_id='683668' first='Ty' last='Cortes'] has offers from Penn and Utah State. Charlie Abts is a receiver to keep an eye on. The Dons lost their two best defensive players from last season, one to graduation and one to transfer, so it will be interesting to see how they fill in the gaps on defense.

CAPISTRANO VALLEY

Capo Valley had a nice showing at the Villa Park event last Saturday. [player_tooltip player_id='595827' first='Tommy' last='Acosta'] is the likely starter at quarterback and he has some inexperienced but talented receivers. [player_tooltip player_id='595817' first='Ryan' last='Isenhart'] is a big target and the duo of Brayden Saavedra and Ethan Jarvis had big days last Saturday. Kaden Hunter made nice plays at receiver and was all over the field on defense. [player_tooltip player_id='147764' first='Jackson' last='Sievers'] is a big linebacker that can cover a lot of the field on the underneath routes. Cash Moormann is a smaller running back who can make plays in the passing game. Saturday is a big step up in competition for the Cougars, but they understand that and know they will get better by competing against high-level competition.

https://twitter.com/TommyAcosta_/status/1673412517312495616?s=20

20 of some of the best programs in Southern California and a program in Washington will gather at Edison High School Saturday for one of the most prestigious passing tournaments of the summer.
