Battle at the Beach Preview (Part 1)

20 of some of the best programs in Southern California and a program in Washington will gather at Edison High School Saturday for one of the most prestigious passing tournaments of the summer.   Mission Viejo won the event last season by beating St. John Bosco in the championship game.   Here is a look at the teams in Pool A and Pool B of the Battle at the Beach tournament.   <h2 class="wp-block-heading">POOL A</h2>   ST. JOHN BOSCO   St. John Bosco is one of the top teams in the nation, particularly at the skill positions. [player_tooltip player_id='115455' first='Caleb' last='Sanchez'] will get the majority of the reps at quarterback and is the likely starter for the Braves. [player_tooltip player_id='209113' first='Madden' last='Williams'] is a young receiver I am really high on and expect [player_tooltip player_id='115470' first='Tommy' last='Maher'] and [player_tooltip player_id='283605' first='Daniel' last='Odom'] to get plenty of targets. The Braves also added Chaparral transfer [player_tooltip player_id='398478' first='Stacy' last='Dobbins'] at receiver. [player_tooltip player_id='115443' first='Kyngstonn' last='Viliamu-Asa'] is the best linebacker in the state and the Braves have a loaded secondary behind him. [player_tooltip player_id='115433' first='Peyton' last='Woodyard'], [player_tooltip player_id='115452' first='Jason' last='Mitchell'], [player_tooltip player_id='115432' first='Marcelles' last='Williams'] and [player_tooltip player_id='398450' first='Frankie' last='Edwards III'] are outstanding defensive backs and [player_tooltip player_id='115469' first='Jordan' last='Lockhart'] can move all over the field and play anywhere. [player_tooltip player_id='273572' first='Khmori' last='House'] is another elite linebacker for the Braves so teams should avoid throwing underneath routes against the Braves. BONAVENTURE   St. Bonaventure is returning quarterback [player_tooltip player_id='115460' first='Anthony' last='Wolter'] who completed 61 percent of his passes for 1518 yards with 13 touchdowns last season. The Seraphs are losing running back Delon Thompson but Keon Glover is back and is a player I am high on. Bryan Estrada is a receiver who is gaining some steam and Dylan Dunst is a linebacker who is getting some lower level offers. Carson Daniels and junior Jake Minter are other receivers that are reportedly in the mix for Edison. Cole Edwards is the quarterback and a baseball guy who threw for 1850 yards and 22 touchdowns last season. [player_tooltip player_id='338800' first='Logan' last='Sloman'] is the top returning receiver with 998 yards and 14 touchdowns last season. He was named the MVP of the league and is an under-recruited guy. Carter Dungy is back at running back but only had two receptions last season. The Pumas lost top receiver [player_tooltip player_id='398478' first='Stacy' last='Dobbins'] to Bosco but return [player_tooltip player_id='282683' first='Jacob' last='Alvarez'] at tight end. [player_tooltip player_id='1582158' first='Justin' last='Selway'] leads the defense and is back at linebacker. [player_tooltip player_id='689900' first='Aiden' last='Alefosio'] is back on defense as well as [player_tooltip player_id='205623' first='Jayce' last='Venable']. Sophomore [player_tooltip player_id='1000890' first='Luke' last='Fahey'] and junior [player_tooltip player_id='406731' first='Draiden' last='Trudeau']-Cicero will both see reps at quarterback for the Diablos. [player_tooltip player_id='780469' first='Markus' last='Kier'] is a sophomore receiver I am very high on and juniors Winslow Garnier and Cash Semonza will also see targets. [player_tooltip player_id='282715' first='Tyler' last='Hennessy'] and [player_tooltip player_id='723685' first='AJ' last='Ia'] are offensive skill players to watch. A big strength of Orange Lutheran is the offensive and defensive line which will unfortunately not be on display Saturday. I am curious to see Servite transfer [player_tooltip player_id='283599' first='Christian' last='Panapa'] at linebacker as well.   OAKS CHRISTIAN   Oaks Christian has recent Washington commit [player_tooltip player_id='273633' first='Justice' last='Williams'] at receiver and [player_tooltip player_id='683629' first='Nate' last='Bennett'] (Baylor) returning at quarterback. Stanford commit [player_tooltip player_id='195515' first='Chase' last='Farrell'] is a receiver for the Lions and one of the fastest players in the state. [player_tooltip player_id='683639' first='Devin' last='Tate'] is also a quarterback for Oaks Christian with offers. [player_tooltip player_id='683684' first='Prince' last='Williams'] is an under-recruited defensive back for the Lions. Dominic Johnson is an outside linebacker who racked up tackles last season for Cathedral and Sean Brooks Jr. is back at cornerback.   MILLIKAN   Millikan is an intriguing team with Bosco transfer [player_tooltip player_id='282737' first='JP' last='Mialovski'] at quarterback. The headliner for Millikan is USC commit [player_tooltip player_id='115471' first='Ryan' last='Pellum'] at receiver.
