For most players, the Junior season marks their first Varsity playing time, while the rare underclassmen playing on varsity now have an opportunity to truly shine. The five players I talk about here were already great Sophomore contributors, though I strongly believe they could soon achieve superstar status.
QB | McKale McDowell McKale McDowell 5'10" | 165 lbs | QB River Rouge | 2025 State MI | River Rouge | Hudl
I was extremely happy with how McKale performed last season in relief for Chrisitan Johnson. McKale flashed as a great dual-threat who can do a lot of damage with his feet- both throwing on the run and scrambling. He’s an escape artist and does a good job at keeping his eyes downfield while evading pressure. There are times when McKale gets a bit run-happy when he could stand in the pocket a bit longer, and he could be a bit more consistent with his accuracy. I’ve seen him perform this offseason, and I am confident he’s working on his craft a ton. McKale could turn into a superstar this year as he leads a state championship favorite!
WR | Jami Williams Jami Williams 6'3" | 170 lbs | WR Grand Rapids Catholic Central | 2025 State MI | GR Catholic Central | Hudl
Four offensive skill position players could achieve superstar status on this team. Jami, above all, has the highest upside. Jami is a tall, fast, deep threat who has an extremely well-rounded game. Although I’d categorize him as a fast route-running deep threat (think Jameson Williams), he’s still able to make contested catches and be more physical. I strongly believe that Jami should be a sure-fire P5 recruit. I can’t wait to see what Jami can do in this offense filled with firepower!
OL | N-Kye Wynn | Muskegon | Hudl
I’ve heard a ton of great things about N’Kye, and after seeing him in person at the GETMAULED OL camp a few weeks ago, I’m confident he’ll have a breakout season this fall. Last season, he had his ups and down, facing off against some of the best DEs in Michigan. He took his lumps at times against D1 prospects but absolutely dominated against other teams. If I trust any position coach to get constant development from his players, it’s Matt Bolles, the OL coach for Muskegon. Toledo has already offered N-Kye, and I strongly believe N-Kye could receive some P5 offers as soon as this winter.
OL | Camden Pawlick Camden Pawlick 6'3" | 240 lbs | OL Saline | 2025 State MI | Saline | Hudl
Camden has retained a very consistent work ethic and has displayed very consistent improvement over the past few seasons. A few years ago, he was a skinnier player still getting used to the OL technique. Now, he’s a well-rounded lineman with nice-looking pass-blocking technique with a TON of offseason work. I cannot tell you how much Camden has improved, and he could be a superstar for Saline this season!
DB | Isaac Poot Isaac Poot 6'1" | 190 lbs | DB Rockford | 2025 State MI | Rockford | Hudl
Poot was quietly one of the best defensive backs in the OK Conference last season. He’s a super instinctual player with ball-hawking abilities, with multiple interceptions that he truly earned. He also flashes some of his athleticism being Rockford’s main punt returner, which also makes me wonder about his potential usage on offense. Poot just received his first offer from Hope College, though I believe that he’s a D2 player at worst and a P5 player if he really turns heads this fall.
