Continue ReadingDane county is such a loaded area of the state that we had to come back for another installment of the top uncommitted athletes from the county. This group of seven soon to be seniors are all prospects that I believe have D2 level talent, right now, with the potential to develop by the end of their senior seasons and possibly earn D1 attention. Don’t miss out on these student athletes.
We start at Edgewood with an exciting DL prospect. Wesley Coates Wesley Coates 6’3″ | 275 lbs | DL Edgewood | 2024 State WI sure looks the part of a college DL standing at 6’3″ 270 lbs with a 6’7″ wingspan. Coates understands how to use that length and leverage to create sepearation. From there he has impressive burst and body control to quickly slip past the OL. Coates’ first step burst is also effective. He has many highlights where Wesley was able to shoot through gaps and then chase down the ball in the backfield. Coates is the mismatch you look for in the trenches on the defensive side of the ball.

Since my last mention of Garrison we have seen the Verona CB earn multiple D2 offers. It is easy to see why. He is one of the most athletically gifted athletes in the state. That athleticism allows him to bait the QB with his positioning. Also, because he plays a lot of zone Codde is able to have his eyes in the backfield and quickly react to short passes in front of him or rush attempts off the edge. The 5’10” 165 lbs CB is a reliable tackler on the edge and in space. I can’t wait to see how his game has developed this fall if I don’t cross paths with him this summer.

It seems like every year DeForest has a ballhawk at DB. This year that player is the 6′ 190 lbs Carter Morrison Carter Morrison 6’0″ | 190 lbs | DB DeForest | 2024 State WI . In 2022 Morrison set the single game INT record for DeForest with 4 INTs. His soft hands and comfort plucking the ball out of the air, even when he has to contort his body to get his hands on it, makes the INTs easy. Carter also flashes the range to play deep and give his defense help over the top all over the field. The ’24 trusts his eyes and reacts quickly. He balled out at the UW- River Falls camp early in May and turned it into his first roster offer. Keep an eye on the DeForest prospect.
Teams looking for a massive target need to give the 6’5″ 190 lbs WR a look. Bradyn has a lot of room to contine to fill out his frame. Taylor is a long strider when he is asked to go deep downfield, but he also has the body control and quickness to be able to run effective routes. He has soft hands and catches the ball away from his body. Bradyn’s willingness and ability to block downfield is a huge bonus for the offense. With his body being able to hold a good amount more size there is potential that he could be a future TE prospect. We could be in store for a big breakout from the ’24.
The 6’1″ 210 lbs LB/TE is a key piece for Sun Prairie West on both sides of the ball. Because of that, we have him ranked as an ATH. On offense, he can be utilized as a FB or H-Back. He was a reliable receiving option in the short passing game, and was a hard, downhill runner after the catch. On defense, Ean was all over the field from his ILB position. He is a very smart, quick processing defender. That made many of his highlights look like he knew where the ball was going. Ackley’s tape also shows that he is an excellent blitzer. His timing and acceleration easily allow him to get through gaps. Ean is also one of the most reliable tacklers we have in this Class. The playmaker is starting to earn D2 offers. Don’t miss out on him.
Gabe has come a long ways since I first watched him as a sophomore. He looks the part of a college signal caller at 6’4″ 190 lbs, and he offers the rushing threat that has become more and more coveted by the next level. As a passer, Passini plays with clean footwork that does a good job of staying connected to his eyes. He has the arm strength to be able to deliver the ball to every level of the field and he can push the ball downfield while off his back foot. The experienced passer isn’t afraid to stand tall in the pocket and stare down the barrel of blitzing LBs. The most important part of his game is his accuracy. Gabe is able to control where he puts the ball, even when he really lets it rip to beat closing windows. The ’24 also does a great job of protecting the ball, finishing with only 2 INTs in 2022.

We wrap up Part II with another exceptionally well put together signal caller. The Sun Prairie West QB checks in at roughly 6’5″ 210 lbs. The pocket passer has the mobility to be able to move in the pocket and buy time outside the pocket. Rhoads has enough arm strength to be a threat to hit all three levels, but his ball placement and touch is his superior talent when it comes to his arm. Both from the pocket and while rolling out Brady has examples of pinpoint ball placement. He was a very raw prospect in 2022. I’m excited to see how he takes a step forward in 2023. There is potential to tap into.
