Continue ReadingMaybe the best athlete in the National White divisional, we start this list off with DJ McClary DJ McClary 6’1″ | 185 lbs | ATH Henry Snyder | 2025 State NJ . As a sophomore in 2022 for Snyder, DJ did some special things that you don’t see very often. DJ may line up at the QB position, but he really made a name for himself as a runner. Rushing for 2107 yards and 25 touchdowns, DJ showed how deadly he is in open field. He is a very smooth runner and very decisive with his cutting. He is able to anticipate where the defenders will be and somehow emerge from hordes of defenders.
On the defensive side of the ball, DJ is just as impressive if not more. He was able to bring in 131 total tackles, 20.5 for a loss, and 2 sacks. He is playing at such a high level that you can see a huge discrepancy between himself and the players he’s lining up against. DJ may possibly be one of the best players coming out of NJ in 2025. He is an unreal athlete, and was truly born to play football. Receiving offers from big name programs such as Oregon, Minnesota, Illinois and Virginia Tech, other schools better reach out soon before they miss out on one of the best.
Rashawn Marshall Rashawn Marshall 5’10” | 170 lbs | RB Weequahic | 2024 State NJ is a special talent. The soon to be senior for Weequahic ran all over defender in 2022 as he sliced and diced through traffic. A running back that has it all, Rashawn is able to deliver a powerful stiff arm and shed the tackler with ease. Somehow he is able to bounce off defenders and then proceed to turn on the afterburners as he dashes to open field. Running for 1805 yards and 9 touchdowns as a junior, I wouldn’t be surprised if he eclipsed the 2000 yard mark this fall. Rashawn is a true D1 talent, and he will catch some big program’s attention soon.
Matt Edwards
Matt Edwards
Matt Edwards is someone you may want to keep an eye on. With three more years left to show what he’s got, this Hoboken running back made heads turn as a freshman. A smaller back but extremely shifty, he accelerates through the hole and makes guys miss through stopping on a dime or breaking through arm tackles. There is huge upside here, and Matt will be a major threat as he puts on more size in these upcoming years.
The stand alone defender on this list, Jahsyn Reid Jahsyn Reid 6’3″ | 185 lbs | ATH Newark Central | 2025 NJ had a big sophomore campaign for Newark Central. Bringing in 81 tackles, an interception, and 2 sacks, Jahsyn made an impact all across the field. A very clean and technical tackler, he will uproot runners as he wraps them up for the tackle. In the passing game, Jahsyn is able to deliver the blow and will dislodge the ball from any receiver entering his territory. Jahysn could also have a big future as a receiver, but I see him being a big bodied safety at the next level.
Here we have the second freshman on this list. Earning second team all division in 2022, this time it is Mason Geis Mason Geis 6’0″ | 180 lbs | QB Immaculata | 2026 State NJ of Immaculata. After throwing for 13 touchdowns and 1133 passing yards, Mason started to make his presence known. He is a big sized gunslinger that led Immaculata to 3-0 record within the division.
Mason has all of the qualities you’d hope for in a young QB. A really strong arm for his age, Mason launched the ball downfield and led his receivers perfectly in stride. He’s a patient passer, letting the play develop and trusting his receivers when he delivers the 50/50 ball. Mason is mobile enough to avoid the sack, and is even able to make some Patrick Mahomes like throws when he is on the run. A rare talent, Mason has three years to look forward to to perfect his craft.
