Dane county is home to cities such as Madison, Verona, Sun Prairie, Stoughton, DeForest, Waunakee, and the combination of Mount Horeb/ Barneveld. In today’s article I want to dive into the top UNCOMMITTED 2024s from the area. Colleges recruiting the great state of Wisconsin should begin right here because, as you can see, this group is a big chunk of the uncommitted Top 60 talent.
Thomas currently holds an offer from Toledo, yet he still seems to be under the radar. The junior is the top uncommitted talent in the Madison area, and one of the top overall in the entire state. He is a legitimate chess piece in the defensive backfield. In zone coverage his awareness and burst allow him to react and close to receivers and the ball entering his area. In man coverage Thomas has the speed to run with receivers and to recover if he is picked at the line. The junior can also play down in the box and be a stout run defender. The Middleton DB can’t be a sleeper anymore. Teams in need of a safety must start here.
The top OL from Dane county is the 6’6″ 270 lbs LT from Mount Horeb/ Barneveld. The All Region OT has an elite frame with long arms and an athletic build. He is also 15 lbs heavier than he was during the 2022 season. So get ready for even more dominant film in 2023. During our next rankings update Austin is going to find himself on the rise. His blend of body control, ankle and knee flexibility, and power is D1 quality. Watching through the film, you never see Austin off balance, or reaching. He is patient, and is able to generate a ton of power thanks to his that lower body flexibility. The big man’s hands are key to his success as well. They are powerful and consistently land on the chest plate of defenders. Once he clamps on he is in control under he puts the defense in the dirt. He is a Must Know prospect.

Another Middleton standout to know is the DL Dominic Frost Dominic Frost 6’3″ | 300 lbs | DL Middleton | 2024 State WI . The 6’3″ 290 lbs IDL is a force in the trenches. Right off the bat, Dominic looks great in pads. He carries his weight really well, and has good arm length that makes him look and play even bigger than his 6’3” frame suggests. Dominic is a mismatch nightmare for IOL. In one on one matchups the big man is able to win with either power or speed. He explodes out of his stance with a quick first step, gets his hands on, and can drive his OL into the backfield when he plays with power. Frost also has lateral quickness to beat linemen with quick jukes leaving them punching air. A team is going to get an impact player from the Middleton prospect. The big man is still looking for that first offer. Give him a look.

Another DB to have high on your recruiting boards is the Sun Prairie East safety Sam Ostrenga Sam Ostrenga 5’11” | 185 lbs | DB Sun Prairie | 2024 State WI . The 5’11” 185 lbs junior has been making a varsity impact since his freshman year when he helped the Cardinals make a State Championship runner up finish. Fast forward to his junior tape and you see a player primed to be a next level impact player. Sam reads the QB, and routes really well, and his reaction paired with his speed allows him to easily cover half the field while baiting the QB. Ostrenga is also a reliable last line of defense. He is a sound tackler and has the speed to chase down ball carriers. Sam also has the short area quickness and agility to be able to drop down and cover slot receivers in man to man coverage. He has the reactive athleticism needed to be able to run with receivers through breaks, and he has the hands to create turnovers. It is only a matter of time until his recruitment takes off. Don’t be last to the party.

A player who could really take off this summer and fall is Sun Prairie East OT Alton Williams Alton Williams 6’8″ | 290 lbs | OL Sun Prairie East | 2024 State WI . He has the length and overall frame you dream of at 6’8″ 290 lbs, and he carries that 290 lbs so easily. The massive OT is also athletic. He is light on his feet, can change directions in his pass set to mirror pass rushers, and is consistent with his hand usage and placement. Alton also has shown off the range to get out in space to block or screens. The most exciting part is that I feel like there is a lot more strength that can be added to his game, and with more development of his footwork while run blocking we could see him really take his game to another level. Williams already has a solid collection of D2 offers. More to come.

Teams in need of OL help need to get to Dane county. Up next we have another big man, and our third member of Middleton’s impressive roster. The All State honorable Mention OL is another member of this article still looking for that first offer from the next level. The 6’3″ 295 lbs OL has a 6’5″ wingspan that he uses to make initial contact. If he gets hands on first it is usually over because the junior lineman has strong hands and trench controlling power. Peterson uses leverage from effective knee bend and his raw power to get underneath DL and drive them off the ball in the run game. He also is very effective at doubling teaming and then peeling off to pick up level two. Teams looking to boost their rushing attack need to look at the Middleton prospect.

Our final OL of the article is the 6’3″ 260 lbs junior OT from Sun Prairie East. Logan has recently seen his recruitment take off with an offer from Bemidji State. Great to see it coming together for the veteran OL who definitely has put in the work over the years. Logan’s powerful hands jump off teh tape. His quick, strong punch is able to stand up DE/OLBs if not send them to the dirt. The accuracy of his punches are just as key as the power behind it. Gross is also very athletic. You can get him out on the edge or downfield to lead screen passes. Logan also possesses the anchor strength to take on bull rushers and blitzers without giving ground. Gross has molded himself into a strong next level prospect.

We end this article with a member of Edgewood’s roster. Carter Wieseckel Carter Wieseckel 6’4″ | 220 lbs | DL Edgewood | 2024 State WI brings the prototypical frame for a DE. He is 6’4″ 220 lbs with tons of room to continue to fill out. The long, lean edge defender demonstrates a next level burst and first step quickness. He also has the closing speed to really wreck havoc in the backfield. Carter also has the balance and lateral agility to be able to make OL miss as they attempt to kick him out on the edge. Carter is just scratching the surface right now. He is raw in terms of pass rush moves, so as he is coached up on the technical side of the position we will see a big jump from the talented prospect. Give his tape a look.
