Continue ReadingThe series marches on with another list of 5 very talented sophomores coming out of New Jersey in 2025. This group has it all. Speed, agility, great hands, and the ability to change the momentum of any game with superb special teams play. 2025’s class is special, and here are 5 at the very top of the list.
Dez Jones Dez Jones 5’11” | 175 lbs | WR DePaul Catholic | 2025 State NJ was a stand out sophomore for DePaul Catholic in 2022, and he has been recognized as the highest ranking receiver on Prep Redzone’s 2025 rankings. A great route runner, especially when positioned in the slot, Dez was a nightmare for those that lined up opposite of him.
As a yards after the catch specialist, Dez made defenders look silly when running slants and screens. His first few steps in an route are extremely quick, making it easy for defenders to get their feet tangled up. When running the deeper routes, he has a great ability to track the ball over his shoulder to make the catch. The way Dez plays reminds me a lot of Deebo Samuel, and I wouldn’t be surprised at all if he had that type of impact at the D1 level.
Quincy Porter Quincy Porter 6’4″ | 195 lbs | WR Bergen Catholic | 2025 State NJ is your prototypical jump ball receiver. This young man outsizes all of his competition, and already has D1 height and hands. Just throw the ball to the corner of the end zone and you can be sure Quincy will come down with it. Fast and nimble for 6’4″ receiver, he reminds me of a 100m sprinter when he starts picking up some speed.
Bergen Catholic has quite the dynamic duo in Quincy Porter Quincy Porter 6’4″ | 195 lbs | WR Bergen Catholic | 2025 State NJ and quarterback Dominic Campanile Dominic Campanile 6’1″ | 160 lbs | QB Bergen Catholic | 2025 State NJ , who was featured in the QB edition of this series. These two will torment defenses these next two seasons, and will both reach elite status by their senior year.
If there’s one highlight tape that needs to be watched all the way through in this series, it is Sahnye Degraffenreidt Sahnye Degraffenreidt 6’1″ | 185 lbs | WR Atlantic City | 2025 State NJ ‘s. He produced one of the best one hand catches for a touchdown that you will ever see. If there was a best hands in NJ award, he would surely be nominated for it. He makes incredible catches play after play.
Coming out of Atlantic City, Sahnye does it all for his team. He is a jump ball specialist, and is a game changer on special teams as a returner. He not only can run right past would be tacklers, but can run through them as well. He may be the best all around WR coming out of NJ in 2025.
Phillip Folmar Phillip Folmar 6’0″ | 170 lbs | WR Delbarton | 2025 State NJ is a true burner. Very few of his competition can move quicker within the first few yards of the line of scrimmage. As soon as the ball is in his hands, he turns his speed to another level. He has acceleration that makes every defender recalculate their pursuit, because Phillip runs past where they expect him to be.
He is a shifty receiver, finding wiggle room through defenders to make his way into open field. And just like Sahnye, Phillip is just as dangerous on special teams as he is on the offensive side of the ball.
Unfortunately Bryce Kania Bryce Kania 6’4″ | 195 lbs | WR Hun | 2025 State NJ ‘s season was cut short to 4 games in 2022, but that still gave us plenty of film to watch and evaluate his skill level. Luckily for Bryce, his 4 games played had more highlights in it than most players have in a full season. With great height and wingspan, you can expect Bryce to snag the ball out of the air for years to come. There’s few at the high school level that will be able to tear it away from him. Playing for the Hun School, which absolutely dominated last season, I expect to see them continue their success with Bryce playing a large part in it.
