Georgia Future Stars: DeKalb County MVP’s and Headliners
In this article:
Future Stars Game camps hit Dekalb County this past Saturday, and like the camps before, there was some future 4 and 5 star kids out to show off their talents for the Future Stars Game staff. The 8th grade session was a must see group for college coaches all over the country.
Christian Hunter Christian Hunter 6'1" | 265 lbs | DL Milton | 2027 State GA of Roswell and Waylon Wooten Waylon Wooten 6'1" | 280 lbs | DL Cedar Grove | 2027 GA of Ellenwood demonstrated why many believe they will be competing in high school for 5-star status and the spot at the top ranked defensive lineman in the state. They are both very well put together kids with little body fat, Hunter 6-2 and 240lbs and Wooten 6-1 and 260lbs. The’yre both are extremely fast for kids their size, with Hunter running a 5.12 in the 40 and Wooten not far behind with a 5.72. When it comes to them, they’re not getting recognition because of they’re potential, they’re getting recognized because their talent is already elite at this stage.
Hunter is a technically sound kid that has an explosive first step. He does a great job of winning the hand fight at the point of attack gaining leverage and then has the ability to beat you in a variety of ways. He is quick enough to just blow by offensive linemen. He is strong enough to bull rush and get to the quarterback. But, he is polished enough that he can demonstrate a variety of moves inside and outside to make him almost unbeatable in a one on one matchup.
Highlights
Wooten is a little different than Hunter, as he is a violent interior guy with an excellent array of moves. He also has an explosive first step and seems to always win the leverage battle as he stays low and keeps his pad level under the offensive lineman. He beats you more with power and quickness, but is very polished that he does not have to rely on simply overpowering offensive linemen.
Not to be outdone by the defensive line duo, Keyon Standifer Keyon Standifer 5'10" | 155 lbs | ATH Athens Academy | 2027 State GA and Jerome Anderson III Jerome Anderson III DB Newton | 2027 GA (both from Covington) battled for the camp MVP award, with the honor eventually going to Standifer.
Standifer is a fluid and effortless cover corner with elite speed. He changes directions quickly and is explosive out of breaks which are traits of elite cornerbacks. He plays the ball aggressively and is patient as a defender not overcommitting himself. His 4.69 in the 40 shows that he has the recover speed to make up for any mistakes he may make. He had the fastest short shuttle of any player this year, validating how quickly he can change direction.
Highlights
Anderson is just a bit shorter than Standifer, but demonstrates the same elite cover corner attributes. He plays the game with passion and enjoys being on the field and competing. He is aggressive in coverage and physical at point of attack. He will be on every coaches radar in high school.
Brayden Stoker Brayden Stoker 6’2″ | 180 lbs | ATH Gordon Lee | 2027 State GA of Chicamauga was as physically impressive as any person at the camp. The 6-2 and 195lbs kid is impressive. His 4.65 and 4.70 in the 40 were the fastest times of any players up until the Dekalb County Camp. He has the size and speed to be elite at a number of positions on the field. He demonstrates good change of direction at running back, but we believe that ultimately we could be looking at a future 4 or 5 star kid at outside linebacker.
Highlights
Justin Weeks Justin Weeks 6’5″ | 210 lbs | DL Pace Academy | 2027 State GA is an imposing figure standing 6-5. His length and power make him a college coaches dream as a defensive end. He has a slender frame that can easily had bulk in a high school and eventually college weight program. He could be a kid sitting in the green room at the NFL draft in the future.
Highlights
We could go on and on about the talent in the 8th grade group from elite linebacker Eli Harris Eli Harris 6'1" | 190 lbs | LB Cedar Grove | 2027 GA of Lithonia, to one of the top offensive linemen in 2027 Tim Harvey, or defensive lineman Denim Welch Denim Welch 5'11" | 260 lbs | DL Westlake | 2027 GA . The Dekalb 8th grade camp was one with a lot of elite talent.
Skill’s and Big’s Step Up for 7th Grade Group (2028)
Demarien Parrott of Atlanta won the MVP award in the 7th grade session. Parrott is a long and extremely athletic receiver. He was explosive in and out of his breaks on his routes and showed excellent hands when the ball was in the air. Standing 5-8 and already a sub 5 un the 40, he has a very bright future.
Bryce Willingham
Bryce Willingham
Bryce Willingham of Atlanta demonstrated excellent technique and play making ability as a defensive back. He showed the ability to change directions and close on receivers quickly and the awareness to make a play on the ball when he got there. He has good size for a corner and if he continues to develop, he could be one of the elite recruits in the class of 2028.
Paul Mitchell
Paul Mitchell
Paul Mitchell Paul Mitchell 6’2″ | 250 lbs | OL Westlake | 2028 GA was a hard-working lunch pail type offensive lineman. He demonstrated excellent technique for such a young player, always having himself in good position to win the battle at the point of attack.
King is King of the 6th Grade Group (2029)
Da’King Whitson
Da’King Whitson
6th grade MVP Da’King Whitson of Centerville stood out in the 6th grade group. He is a name to watch out for in the future as he is as athletic as any receiver you will see at that age.
