Every Friday during February through April, we’re going to throw on the tape and break down athletes across Oklahoma. Last month, we put out a tweet asking prospects in the 2024-2026 classes to send us their film for our Film Review feature. Over 150 responses later and we’re off to the races. We’ve reviewed 75 prospects all over Oklahoma so far and we’re not close to slowing down. Keep it locked in to Prep Redzone Oklahoma every Friday for more breakdowns on athletes across Oklahoma. This week, we put out not one, but two Film Reviews and this is part two! Click here to check out part one!
If you’re not featured this week but have sent us your film, don’t worry! You’re on the list and will be covered in the future. Now, all of these breakdowns are based on the film we have access to. And this isn’t just a puff piece. While the majority of the breakdowns will be positive, it will also include areas to improve, question marks and more for the prospect to work on as we head into the spring and summer.
Camden Broyles
Camden Broyles
Broyles plays outside linebacker for Heavener High School who stands in at 6’3″ and weighs 175 pounds. When you play outside linebacker, you have some different rules to follow compared to inside linebacker. Broyles plays the cutback well down the line of scrimmage. He doesn’t run upfield and put himself in a bad position. He does a good job of setting the edge in their 4-4 style of defense. When he plays up on the line of scrimmage, he plays the down block well, I would like to see him use his hands a little more and squeeze. Broyles does play physical, gets off blocks well, and can cross face when the play comes his way while maintaining his outside gap.
Page is a returning starter for the Sandites who plays running back and is in the class of 2024. Page racked up over 1,000 yards rushing with a total of 18 touchdowns overall. I like Page’s vision once he gets the ball in the backfield. He doesn’t rush it and is patient in letting his blocks develop. He catches the ball well out of the backfield and uses his hands, not his body. Page displays good footwork especially when there is trash once he touches the ball, he sticks his foot in the ground and gets vertical in a hurry. I think Page will have a great Senior season for the Sandites this upcoming season.
Highlights
Haydryan Calderon
Haydryan Calderon
Next up on our list is Calderon from Wynnewood High School who is in the class of 2025. Calderon stands in at 6’3″ and weighs 225 pounds who plays tackle for his team. He comes off the ball and plays with good pad leverage. His first initial blow to his opponents are quick and he gets movement. Calderon likes to play physical and his feet are always moving in the run game. I would like to see him use more of his kick step on pass protection and keep his hands inside to attack the defensive lineman.
Manny Saavedra
Manny Saavedra
Saavedra plays wide receiver and is in the class of 2025 for Meeker High School. The first technique that caught my eye in watching the film was he doesn’t wait for the ball to come to him. He will attack the ball, even if the ball is thrown short, to make sure he gets it. He shows good body control and displays the ability to adjust to the ball. In the run game, he plays physical and attacks his defender. I would like to see him catch the ball consistently with his hands and not his body. He shows he has soft hands and can catch the ball at the highest point.
Chandler plays running back and middle linebacker for Victory Christian in the class of 2024. On the defensive side of the ball, Chandler has a nose for the football and is always around the ball carrier. He is good at coming through the middle of the offensive lineman and puts himself in a good position. He comes to balance well on the ball carrier and finishes the play. Chandler is quick to pull the trigger on sprint out and bootlegs to his side. I do like Chandler’s playmaking ability as he makes his read and then attacks. At running back, he does a good job of catching the ball out of the backfield. He is a versatile player as he can line up in the backfield, slot, or even H back to utilize his athleticism.
