Although there are plenty more coming out of the bluegrass state, we looked at a select few that have already shown the ability to play dominant football at the high school level. Today, we will look at some 2027 prospects coming from the defensive side of the ball.
Garyon is a hard-hitting aggressive linebacker that thrives off the attack while also playing well in zone coverage. The 5’11 8th grader utilizes his strength & size to run through opposing offensive linemen to get to the quarterback. His hand skills are impressive for a linebacker as they mimic the hand positionings of a solid defensive end. Hobbs’ hand skills enable him to slip past blockers to get to the ball carrier. What I like about Hobbs the most though is his defensive IQ. Not only can Garyon attack the offense well, but his positioning on zone coverage and his techniques on tackling ball carriers are also superior to other players in his position. Garyon knows where to hit the runners on their weak spots to pin them down and possibly force a fumble. I can’t wait to see what Hobbs does at the high school level as the potential to be elite is there!
One of the most athletic players in his class, Jordan Holman Jordan Holman 6’2″ | 190 lbs | WR Woodford County | 2027 KY is an absolute unit when throwing down opposing players BOTH on offense and defense. Although he is a fantastic player to watch as a primary wide receiver, his defensive skills are extraordinary as he has the speed of a defensive end and the strength of a heavy defensive lineman. He is currently listed as an “Athlete” since he has not determined a designated defensive position, but I believe he can develop into either an outside linebacker or defensive end. Jordan bulldozes opposing blockers with his superb strength and uses his lateral quickness to accelerate faster than most players to reach the quarterback. I expect Jordan to develop into a top player in the state of Kentucky, as he will already be attending Trinity High School, a powerhouse for high school football development. It is just hard to say what his primary positions will be, but the defensive talent is already there to wreak havoc on varsity-level players.
Highlights
Jordan is one of the better attacking defensive ends in his recruiting class. The 8th grader is excellent at reading the quarterback and drawing away from his assignment to come out to make the help tackle. Although a risky tactic, Jordan’s QB reads are accurate on nearly every snap so his ability to play blitz coverage and attack the ball carrier is outstanding. Along with that, Haskins’ athleticism enables him to stick to his assigned receiver and get a hit on the ball even when the quarterback throws it right to the receiver’s sweet spot. Once high school football comes around for Haskins, he will be a player you do not want to miss out on seeing play.
Another player who excels at playing Football on the offense and defensive side, Kasen Brock Kasen Brock 5’11” | 195 lbs | RB Pulaski County | 2027 State KY is another exciting prospect with lots of upsides. The 8th grader shines at accurately reading QB reads and positioning himself to the placement of the thrown football to make the interception. His skills from playing running back transfer to his game as free safety since he possesses spectacular field vision to see where all the offensive players are positioned on the field. Brock is also underrated at tackling as he can be seen punching the football out of opposing ball carriers to force a turnover and possibly scoring a defensive touchdown in the process. One thing is for sure for Kasen Brock Kasen Brock 5’11” | 195 lbs | RB Pulaski County | 2027 State KY : He effectively utilizes his traits to build successful drives on both sides of the field. No matter if Brock is running the football or picking off the football, he will help your team perform at the highest level. The potential for Brock to be elite has already been seen so do not sleep on Brock once he enters high school ball.

It is crazy to watch Gage Chapman Gage Chapman 6’1″ | 215 lbs | LB Murray | 2027 State KY play zone defense as a middle linebacker. The 5’10 8th grader has superior lateral quickness that allows him to quickly react to new openings in the defense for him to switch off to. Chapman can get around one side of the field to the other to either stop the defender or come up with the interception. Chapman also has good upper body strength to be able to hold off opposing runners attempting to push him off them. Lastly, Gage’s fast reflexes enable him to get off the snap quicker than most people, and can sneak past the blockers to sack the quarterback. I see a bright future for Gage Chapman Gage Chapman 6’1″ | 215 lbs | LB Murray | 2027 State KY in the high school football atmosphere. Make sure to check him out this upcoming 2023 football season.
