Every Friday during February through April, we’re going to throw on the tape and break down athletes across Oklahoma. Earlier this month, we put out a tweet asking prospects in the 2024-2026 classes to send us their film for our Film Review feature. Over 150 responses later and we’re off to the races. Keep it locked in to Prep Redzone Oklahoma every Friday for more breakdowns on athletes across Oklahoma. This week, we put out not one, but two Film Reviews and this is part two! Click here to check out part one!
If you’re not featured this week but have sent us your film, don’t worry! You’re on the list and will be covered in the future. Now, all of these breakdowns are based on the film we have access to. And this isn’t just a puff piece. While the majority of the breakdowns will be positive, it will also include areas to improve, question marks and more for the prospect to work on as we head into the spring and summer.
Aaron Edwards
Aaron Edwards
For a second week in a row, we get to take a look at another athlete from Putnam City West. Edwards plays linebacker and wide receiver for Putnam City West and is in the class of 2024. He stands in at 6’2″ and weighs in at 193 pounds. We will take a look at linebacker first, Edwards is an athletic backer who always finds a way to be around the football. Edwards made some big time plays in creating turnovers and being in the right spot to make the play. He likes to play physical and tackles majority of the time through the thighs. Playing wide receiver, he does a good job tracking the ball with his eyes to come up with some good catches. Edwards found ways to make acrobatic catches and seemed to always come down with the ball.
Beckham Smith
Beckham Smith
Smith is in the class of 2024 from Perkins-Tryon. Watching his film, Smith does a lot of good things with the ball in his hands. From kickoff returns, playing wide receiver, quarterback, running back and even defensive back, Smith can do it all for Perkins-Tryon. Smith shows good vision, balance, and footwork while being patient for the holes to open up. Perkins does a good job finding ways to utilize Smith in getting him the ball multiple ways. When Smith doesn’t have the ball in his hands, he shows that he is a team player out on the edge sealing a block or even picking up a linebacker coming through. At defensive back, Smith is a physical player who is not afraid to put his nose on the ball. I would like to see more film with him in coverage along with his back pedal technique, but I like what I saw of him on offense. He is someone who does whatever it takes for his team to win.
Christian Sigler
Christian Sigler
From the class of 2024, Sigler is an offensive tackle from Bethany High School. He stands in at 6’3″ and weighs in 240 pounds. First thing that stood out to me watching film is his run blocking technique. He has a good frame that moves well out in space. He shows good run game blocking technique with a good base and continues to keep his feet moving. He does a good job swabbing up to linebacker and seems to always find work. In the screen game, he does a good job engaging with his defender to let go, as he moves into open space, he comes to balance before attacking the next level defender. Sigler is an athletic lineman that can do multiple things and is a physical blocker on all levels. Another trait I like about Sigler is he runs his track to the next defender on where he is going to be, not where he is lined up pre-snap.
I’ve had the opportunity to watch film last year on Chaney during the same segment, Friday Film Review. Chaney is in the class of 2025 and has made the move from Morris to Sapulpa this offseason. At Morris, he played defensive back and wide receiver and was able to get playing time as a freshman last year. He shows a fluid back pedal as a defender and plays good in coverage. He is physical in the run game and does a good job setting an edge. There is not much hesitation on his end coming up and making a tackle as he does a good job coming to balance. Playing out at wide receiver, Chaney does a good job finding ways to get open. He catches the ball well and finds windows to settle down to make the catch.
Highlights
Da’Marion Ramsey
Da’Marion Ramsey
Standing at 6’1″ and weighs in at 180 pounds, Ramsey is a player for Hugo High School. He plays wide receiver and defensive back and is in the class of 2024. Something I picked up on from the beginning of watching film is that Ramsey finds a way to make the catch no matter what side of the ball he is on. Hugo finds ways to get Ramsey the ball on either jet sweeps, slants or a go ball. He has a good skill set out at wide receiver and uses his hands to catch the ball. Ramsey adjusts to the ball with good eye hand coordination. He has good body control which helps put him in position to make the catch. Ramsey is not afraid to dive for the ball or go up and make the big catch over his defenders. He is active on the defensive side of the ball in pass coverage and coming up to make the tackle for his team.
I want to go ahead and tell everyone that I want to buy some stock in Scott after putting on his film. At 6’2″, he has a good frame that is not afraid to go get the ball and beat his defender any way possible. He tracks the ball good and is able to shield the defender away from the ball. Clip after clip, it shows him extending his arms to go up and grab the ball out of the air. With his size, you like your wide receiver that will go up and snag the ball out of the air, like Scott does every time. Down in the redzone you don’t know what you are going to get playing defensive back against Scott. He runs a combination of a slant and fade route and you are unsure what you are going to get from him. With his frame, he can beat you on both routes. He shows a good double move which the defenders bite every time. After watching the game film, I believe Scott has an opportunity to go play at the next level at wide receiver.
Julian Espinoza
Julian Espinoza
Next up for our Friday Film Review, we are going to take a look at Espinoza from Pryor in the class of 2024. Espinoza plays running back for the Tigers. He runs with good vision and is patient on hitting the hole. It pays him dividends out on the field when he runs behind his shoulder pads as he likes to run physical. He can make the catches out of the backfield and is a slide and glide running back. The Tigers use Espinoza in multiple ways to get him the ball. On the defensive side of the ball, he plays safety and likes to play physical in the run game. Majority of his clips are of him at running back so I wasn’t able to gauge too much on him at safety but liked what we saw with him at running back.
Kyven Foster
Kyven Foster
Next up on our list is Foster that plays defensive lineman for Southmoore. Foster plays down the line of scrimmage and eats up a lot of double team blocks to allow his teammates a chance to get untouched. He works on getting off the double team to get in and make the play. Foster is out of the 2025 class and will be interested to see how he develops in the upcoming years. I would like to see him come off the ball and be more active with his hands in the run and passing game. He does have a good rip on his pass moves that he uses when he comes off the ball.
Terry Flowers
Terry Flowers
Flowers is an active defensive lineman and linebacker that likes to attack the quarterback and or ball carrier. He shows some good pass rush technique coming off the ball and causing a disruption in the backfield. Numerous times throughout the clips he was creating turnovers and hitting the ball carrier in the backfield in the run game. Flowers plays down the line of scrimmage with good pursuit of the ball carrier and never stops chasing the play down when the play is ran away from him. I would like to see Flowers in the passing game as a defender in coverage. Would like to see his pass coverage skills to truly get a feel for him as a linebacker at the next level.
