Continue ReadingComing in at the #1 spot is Miller who had a breakout season and broke the 1,000 yard mark to go with 14 touchdowns on the ground. Miller is one of the top linebackers in the state and should be a top running back as well with the way he runs the ball. Miller is a physical runner and has some speed as well. He will lower his shoulder and try to run you over or if he can he will just outrun you when he gets into the open field. Miller has multiple games where he has hurdled someone and turned it into a big gain or even scoring on one as well. He is able to catch the ball out of the backfield as well making him one of the most complete backs in the state. He will definitely be a player to keep your eye on not only on the defensive side of the ball but on offense as well.
Landing at #2 on this list is Mason Miller Mason Miller 6’3″ | 225 lbs | ATH Pine Creek | 2024 State CO back mate Coar. These backs go 1 and 2 because they are both very skilled backs and can be a two-headed monster similar to what Columbine had this year. Coar is a back that is patient and sets up his blocks and hits the hole. Coar has the ability to turn the plays that look bottled up into explosive plays. He is a physical runner with the top end speed to go with it. He has good vision and can cut it back with the speed to be able to pull away from defenders when they get on the same level. Coar is a young back and will have 2 more years to grow making him the back with the most potential on this list. I like the way he sees the field and his feel for the game as well. I would not be surprised to see him ranked as one of the top backs by the end of the year.
Highlights
At #3 on the list is Martinez who is a back that has some great hands coming out of the backfield and being able to come up with some one handed catches as well. He is patient, he lets the blocks setup on the screens and is able to navigate his way through the blocks picking up good yardage whenever his number is called. Martinez isn’t as fast as the other two backs but he is a back that can hit those big chunk, explosive plays that you look for in a back. Martinez is a solid runner and can pickup a couple extra yards after first contact, fighting and keeping his legs moving. Martinez was able to rush for 1,108 yards and was able to punch it in 14 times on the ground as well.
Highlights
Mathias Price
Mathias Price
Coming in at #4 on the list, might be this seasons sleeper running back in the state. Price was limited in a sense because the Trojans were running an option offense and their senior QB had almost the same amount of carries as he did. I think this year Price will be able to gain some of those carries and he will continue to show that explosiveness that he has. This kid is not easy to bring down and he is a highlight reel waiting to happen the way he breaks tackles and turns them into touchdowns. Price has some good speed and when he is able to get into open space he uses the sideline as his friend and shows good feet being able to tight rope the sidelines. Price is a player that could jump to the top of this league as best back and turn some heads if he is able to build off of this season.
Taking the #5 spot on this list is Stonebraker who is a physical player on the defensive side of the ball but then carries that over to the offensive side of the ball as well. Stonebraker has some good speed and he shows that on just basic runs being able to get the ball on the perimeter and turning it into touchdowns just using his speed to outrun everyone. On one play Stonebraker got a simple pitch and turned it into a long touchdown just getting to the edge and using his blocking and then outrunning everyone after. He shows good vision follows his blocks and really uses those blocks well. Stonebraker on countless times has went untouched to the endzone by using his blocks correctly. He is a player that seeks contact and you can see that when he lowers his shoulder on the opposing players, making them think again about tackling high.
