These athletes are young and still making a high impact for their teams and will have the state on watch for the next couple of years. This is only a couple of the quarterbacks to watch and is my take on how they performed this season.
Mordrzewski led all passer in 5A with 3,341 passing yards to go with 34 passing touchdowns and 12 interceptions on the year. He finished with a passer rating 113.5 which is 7.7 better than he had his freshman year. The golden Eagles run a spread offense which gives Modrzewski the opportunity to showcase his arm. He has a strong arm that helps him on the throws outside the numbers. His tall stature helps him see the pressure and he can get the ball out quick. Modrzewski is really good in the intermediate to deep throws and gets it to receivers on time. Modrzewski does have the ability to extend plays with his legs but he keeps his eyes downfield while he escapes the pocket. He had 28 carries for 165 yards and 1 rushing touchdown. This Golden Eagles team has a young core which will help Mordrzewski be able to grow in this system and continue to put up stats like this for what I expect to be the next few years. He is definitely a player to keep your eye on.

Birch is a shorter but shiftier QB that is good at throwing the deep ball. He had 1,994 yards passing with 18 passing touchdowns with 6 interceptions, as well as 42 carries for 161 yards and 5 rushing touchdowns. These numbers looking pretty similar to his freshman campaign but has taken a jump in QB rating finishing this year with a 115.3 rating. Birch throws his deep passes with touch and puts it where the receiver has a chance to make a play on the ball. He is able to use his shiftiness to evade defenders in the pocket and make things happen with his feet when he gets to the outside. He will sit in the pocket and take a hit and still put the ball where it is supposed, will also lower his shoulder and get the extra yardage as well which you like to see that kind of toughness in a player. Shows good vision in the pocket as well as when he turns into a runner, always keeping his eyes downfield looking to take a shot or keeping it when necessary.

Kiewiet is a naturally good runner and he looks good with the ball in his hands if that be on designed runs or when he decides to pull it down and take off with it. Kiewiet has the most rushing yards and rushing touchdowns on this list with 148 carries for 688 yards and 10 rushing touchdowns. In the passing game Kiewiet had 1,578 yards, 14 touchdowns, 13 interceptions and a QB rating of 68.9. Kiewiet will definitely need to work on limiting his turnovers as he also had 9 fumbles with 6 of them being lost as well. Kiewiet has the ability to be a great duel-threat QB and would like to see him focus on that this offseason. Like I previously stated he has great running ability and would be able to use that to open up the passing game as he does well in rollout or play action.
Cooper when given the opportunity is an accurate passer and explosive runner. The Eagles playing style is more run based but cooper did have a good passing season with 1,536 yards, 15 passing touchdowns and 6 interceptions. Cooper doesn’t run often but when he does he can use his speed to get on the perimeter and turn it into a foot race. He is a player that looks poised in the pocket and passes accurately on all 3 levels. He will lose his top 2 pass catchers from this year but the Eagles top 2 rushers will be returning. Cooper distributes the ball among his pass catchers but will look to see if someone can standout and build a connection with him making themselves the go to guy.

Eliot Ming
Eliot Ming
Ming is more of a modern day pocket passer. He rushed the ball only 8 times this year and as a team the cougars only had 5 rushing touchdowns. Ming will lose his number 1 receiver but the receiving core is still young and they should all be able to grow together. Ming had 1,347 yards passing, 14 touchdowns and 8 interceptions on the year. The cougars have some fast play makers so this will help Ming be able to stretch the field with his arm strength, keeping the safeties honest and opening up the run game. Will look for Ming to work on his intermediate to deep passes so his speedy playmakers can stretch the field vertically for him.
