is the talented QB from Horizon who has landed on the radars of a few Division I schools. He is a three-year starter who has consistently shown his ability to make every throw in the book. His athleticism gives him the mobility to extend plays or take off and run to get it done with his legs. Birch’s film is one to anticipate, especially with the team’s tough schedule.

Birch is perhaps one of the more polished passers in the state regarding his overall throwing mechanics. He is a mobile quarterback with the elusiveness and speed that make him a dual-threat, even though his playing style leans more toward that of a pocket passer. He has good footwork and accurate ball placement, giving him the potential to exceed expectations. His ability to extend plays with his legs while keeping his eyes downfield is very impressive, but it is a skill that is detrimental to his success because of his height. Make no mistake, he possesses D1 talents, but being a shorter quarterback gives many the perception that Birch’s ceiling resides somewhere around the FCS level.

Birch is a shorter but shiftier QB that is good at throwing the deep ball. He had 1,994 yards passing with 18 passing touchdowns with 6 interceptions, as well as 42 carries for 161 yards and 5 rushing touchdowns. These numbers looking pretty similar to his freshman campaign but has taken a jump in QB rating finishing this year with a 115.3 rating. Birch throws his deep passes with touch and puts it where the receiver has a chance to make a play on the ball. He is able to use his shiftiness to evade defenders in the pocket and make things happen with his feet when he gets to the outside. He will sit in the pocket and take a hit and still put the ball where it is supposed, will also lower his shoulder and get the extra yardage as well which you like to see that kind of toughness in a player. Shows good vision in the pocket as well as when he turns into a runner, always keeping his eyes downfield looking to take a shot or keeping it when necessary.

Birch became one of the class’s better game managers during his freshman season. His ability to learn and immediately develop is extremely impressive. He has a strong arm and solid understanding of his receivers, allowing him to adjust his timing and ball placement to his intended target. Birch will enter his sophomore year as the returning starter, making him an experienced QB with a reasonably high ceiling.
