The quarterback position has been one of the more sought-after positions for quite some time. This article will examine five quarterbacks from the 5A classification that all scouts must know.
Logan Madden | Ralston Valley | 6’2”, 195lbs | 2024
Madden is an outstanding quarterback who has started to see an uptick in his recruiting, landing four Division II offers from Colorado Mesa, CSU-Pueblo, Sioux Falls, and South Dakota Mines.
From mechanics, arm strength, accuracy, and athleticism, Madden emerged from his junior campaign as one of the more well-rounded quarterbacks in the class. He is a versatile passer who can drop bombs from within the pocket and throw darts on the run. Madden’s recent offers prove his stock value is rapidly increasing, giving him the potential to earn more early into his senior season.
Jake Jones Jake Jones QB Chatfield | 2024 State CO | Chatfield | 6’0”, 185lbs | 2024
Jones is, without a doubt, a next-level QB. He has good mechanics and throws a nice ball, helping him stand out in person and on film. Big expectations are circling Jones for the fall as he helps to lead the offense with a new system for a team with championship aspirations.
Kullen Lerma Kullen Lerma 6'2" | 185 lbs | QB Legacy | 2024 State CO | Legacy | 6’2”, 190lbs | 2024
Lerma is an outstanding athlete at the beginning stages of his time as a breakout prospect. His size, powerful arm, and outstanding athleticism make him a dual-threat QB who’s tough to bring down. Lerma earned his first offer from CSU-Pueblo in May, but more should be expected once he gets his first three weeks on film.
Alex Birch Alex Birch 5'10" | 180 lbs | QB Horizon | 2025 State CO | Horizon | 5’10”, 175lbs | 2025
Birch is arguably the best all-around quarterback in his class, with his only drawback being his height. His talents check every box of a sought-after QB. He has a strong arm, smooth throwing motion, impressive accuracy, and the ability to extend plays with his legs. There is no doubt that the soon-to-be three-year starter can sling it with the best of them. For programs that value talent over size, Birch is a no-brainer.
Eliot Ming Eliot Ming 6'0" | 170 lbs | QB Cherokee Trail | 2025 State CO | Cherokee Trail | 6’0”, 175lbs | 2025
Ming is a player whose development has progressed immensely, putting him on track for a breakout junior season this fall. He has solid footwork in the pocket and a strong arm with impressive accuracy. The Cougars are in a situation where they can be legitimate postseason contenders this fall, potentially allowing Ming to steal the spotlight.
