Now for week 7, highlighting top performances by position each week, I wanted to say there are MANY other running backs who could be put on this list. I am listing the players who’s stat line stood out, who people recommended but most importantly, ONLY players who either I watched live or was able to watch highlights from their specific game. For the best chance to be featured, send me your weekly film on twitter. My handle is “@DevinRecord”, please don’t have any hard feelings if you weren’t included.
Tommy Funk
Tommy Funk
Sehome is a team who came into the year with a lot of questions about them. One thing that wasn’t needed to be questioned is them having Funk as the primary ball carrier. The team runs a Wing-T offense, so they put the ball on the ground often. Funk has played well all season, consistently having solid games for the Mariners. In a must needed week 7 win, Tommy rushed for 190 yards and 3 touchdowns against a tough Archbishop-Murphy team. Funk runs the ball with force, which leads to many 8-12 yard runs. His offensive line has done a fantastic job opening holes for him too.
This is a player who could be included almost every single week. This Cascade team runs the ball VERY well and Thomas has been leading the charge. He has many, many games of at least 150 rushing yards and multiple touchdowns. Against Meadowdale HS, Thomas did his thing. He consistently broke tackles and ran through people to keep adding up the yardage. He finished the game with 166 yards on the ground to go along with his 3 rushing touchdowns.
Highlights
Navarre has already proved to the people within the state that he is a top running back within the 2024 class in the state of Washington. I think next year he will be showing people that he’s a top running back in the entire west coast. Lincoln HS has yet to lose a game this season and Silas HS were not able to hand them their first loss. Dixon did what he usually does, breaking tackles and getting the ball down the field effectively. He rushed for 3 touchdowns on the night. He’s going to be a big part of this offense next year as a senior.
Highlights
William Carreto
William Carreto
This Yelm HS team has just been outstanding. It is not common that someone who shares the backfield with one of the top running backs in the state will have a breakout game themselves. Brayden Platt Brayden Platt 6’1″ | 240 lbs | LB Yelm | 2024 State WA , a junior, has been on an absolute tear through every opponent the team has faced. Week 7 against Timberline, it was time for Carreto to have a breakout game. He racked up 204 yards on the ground to go along with 2 touchdowns. He was 2nd team all linebacker last year within the conference and displayed why against Timberline contributing 2 sacks on the night as well.
There was some question marks around Carlson just given the fact he’s coming back from a major knee injury. When I saw him over the summer watching the Ferndale basketball team and saw how much muscle mass he put on, I knew he was going to have another solid year. It took him a little bit to get back in the groove of things but is now playing like a top player on both sides of the ball. Against Mount Vernon HS, we saw a classic Carlson performance. He rushed for 138 yards and 5 touchdowns. He is definitely 100% healthy and will be a problem for teams as the late part of the season inches in.
